Why are so many posts being deleted

In tons of threads, innocuous threads

One of them is mine about de cluttering!

I think Ive seen loads of deletions in recipe threads!!

OP posts:

It’s absolutely ridiculous what HQ is doing.,, so many deletions of entirely innocuous posts, which then completely mess up the flow of read the OP.

I hope Hq read this and back off a bit and focus on the genuinely horrible posts.

BeckyAMumsnet · 12/01/2026 09:46

If anyone’s ever puzzled by a deletion on their own thread, please do drop us a line, we’re always happy to explain what’s happened.

More generally, we are taking a slightly firmer line on posts that tip into being unnecessarily mean or snarky, following feedback from users that threads were feeling harsher than they should. That may account for some of what you’re noticing, even in otherwise innocuous threads.

But loads and loads of deletions are utterly innocuous posts that then mess up the flow of the thread because posters may respond to said deleted posts but no one has the foggiest what’s going on

Well Im not sure, it was someone who had been contributing to the ideas. Then poof. Strange.

Yes, it was daft. Literally just suggestions for how to help you declutter

and then… zapped

dizzydizzydizzy · 12/01/2026 10:27

I saw one deleted over the weekend. The OP's post was pretty nasty. It was criticising blended families and those with SEN children. The OP even said that she knew she was going to be flamed.

This sounds like a very justified deletion

We are talking about the utterly innocuous post deletions

Because I suspect some don't go along with the "group think" and no one else is allowed a controversial opinion🤔

This! If you dare to have a different opinion to the majority, you’ll either be deleted or declared a troll

The recent thread on the nightmare friend became unreadable - basically because the friend had autism, and panic ensued that any criticism of her could be seen as disablist. The irony being that it IS disablist to decide anyone ND should be immune from criticism.

Why would you link to a gambling site?

Yeah, this. You clearly did do something bad?!

You might think they're innocuous. Evidently they're reported and MNHQ deem them to be in breach of the guidelines.

UnusualOtter · 12/01/2026 11:29

I linked to a blog post about names from the Middle Ages on a thread about baby names on 6 January and that is still hidden and "being looked at" by Mumsnet - I thought it was interesting because it showed that names like Sapphire and Tiffany are actually quite old. Absolutely no idea why it was flagged up to Mumsnet in the first place and why it is still hidden almost a week later. @BeckyAMumsnet any thoughts?

There's "group think" on the controversial subject of decluttering? 🤔

Hegharty · 12/01/2026 11:35

What I’m seeing is all of a poster’s posts deleted, and even when completely innocent.

I just assumed it was a banned user back on so MN just deleted all posts by that person.

Oh come on. It’s not some dodgy offshore site, with the link disguised as parenting tips - it’s Paddy Power! They’re a household name! It’s more than a little bit twee to be gasping “But you did something bad!”

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 12/01/2026 12:10

BillieWiper · 12/01/2026 11:22

It’s been answered. It wasn’t “bad” to link to a list of darts 180 scores on a darts discussion thread. 🙄

You think all the posts on MN that haven't been deleted agree with each other?

Can you name one thing that every standing post agrees on?

Noooo. Not that bad. Just that it's clearly against the rules as it could be an advert or encourage addictive habits.

JaneJeffer · 12/01/2026 14:15

I have to say I think it’s pretty bad form for someone to resurrect the darts thread to have a go at me for my mistake having obviously searched my posting history. Honestly this place.

This banning of users over nothing should stop.

They have hidden it pending a review, hopefully it will be back soon as I was half way through reading it when it disappeared

Iwilldoitnowinaminutemam · 26/01/2026 22:19

@kitcat23 it's back now

RedRiverShore6 · 27/01/2026 08:13

Just come on to say that one very innocuous thread about sorting out paperwork disappeared a couple of weeks ago, it was really strange. I thought I had accidentally hidden it
