Site continually crashing and reloading

I am so utterly sick of this, it’s been going on for months but now it’s even worse, in the space of 15 minutes the site has crashed and reloaded 3 times, each time I have lost my post I was typing, it’s infuriating, I am on an iPad using safari. This has been highlighted by numerous posters time and time again and nothing changes.

Also the typing is delayed, pages only partly load it’s been a lot worse since the site upgrade.

Having similar problems, pages freezing, constantly having to log in.
Just been awful the last couple of days.

Hello @Traceysgoingtobelivid thanks for posting. We're going to look into this now but if you're able to send us a screen recording of this happening, it would really help us to figure out the cause. If you're able to do so, please send to [email protected]

Same issue here, it's been terrible for a few weeks now. It's worse when I'm on my iPhone on Safari and seems directly related to huge, all-singing and dancing video ads. If there is an ad that has a banner at the top and both sides, all with separate moving videos, plus other whole-page moving ads in the body of threads - which happens so often now - there's absolutely no chance of reading the thread without it constantly crashing and reloading.

Scroll the thread? It reloads. Have the temerity to enlarge the view? It reloads. Repeatedly. Want to turn the phone on its side to view landscape, so you can enlarge the text to read it (hello varifocal contact lenses) and not scroll back and forth constantly? Reload, reload, then get a message the page repeatedly reloaded so Safari gave up and it can't be viewed.

And don't get me started on the bossy instructions for me to 'rotate your device' when I don't want to, and when it's only for the purpose of an ad being shown to me.

It's making the site a real pain to use, not a pleasure anymore.

I have no problem whatever with being shown ads, if that's the way Mumsnet want to make money, then good luck to you, I'm all for it. But the site does need to be usable.

Off the top of my head, some of the ads that have caused the most problems are:
Bronco Stop
Uniqlo
Co-op funeral care
That advert for something or other (something financial) where some twats dressed up as sheriffs jump up and down gurning, finishing with a big, phone-screen-long picture of a sheriff's badge.

Oh, and when the thread is interrupted for a whole page ad, the site jumps, so that once being subjected to the ad is over, you're not where you were when you were interrupted, but are several posts above or below instead, so you end up scrolling up and down to find your place and have the ad play again.... 😡

TappaMcFeety · 20/11/2025 13:41

Awful again today - can’t click on threads until the advert has loaded, which is taking up to 15 seconds, sometimes longer, then when it does, only half the page loads, freezes and again have to wait.

When I eventually get on a thread and I’m half way down reading, the page will reload again and take me back to the top, where I then have to scroll down trying to find where I’d got to.

Yes, this is very similar to my experience. It makes the site unusable if you only have a minute or two for a quick read. You'll spend half of it waiting for the reloads. Not worth it.

Thanks for the reply @BeckyAMumsnet however I know this is an ongoing problem and this has been done by other posters already who have the exact same problem so I’m not sure how another recording would help even if I could whip my phone out quickly enough to record the issue but will try my best.

This absolutely every time I’ve tried to post today crashed & reloaded losing the post Yy all the post on this thread oh & the ghost typing is infuriating.
@BeckyAMumsnet numerous other threads on this as well all saying the same thing virtually maybe if someone has an iPad at MTowers get them to log in & you can see for yourselves what the issues are don’t mean to be rude but it’s always the same answers & nothing has improved the last few days it’s been bloody worse 🤬

Traceysgoingtobelivid · 20/11/2025 15:56

A picture of the site after crashing and attempting to reload just now and then it took me to the top of the thread and I had to find my place where I left off yet again.

I get this a lot too. I am also using Safari on an iPad. At first I thought it was my iPad that was the problem, but I don’t have the same problem on the app, which is on the same iPad. The problem is I don’t always want to use the app because it has limited functionality. For example you can’t highlight a portion of a post in order to copy and paste and there’s only one option if you want to react to a post. Anyway, that aside, it is really annoying. So annoying that I often just give up and go and do something more productive.

LiveToTell · 21/11/2025 00:01

Mine used to do this all the time - until I signed up to Premium a few months ago.

I think it must be the ads because as I say it no longer does this. Phone doesn’t get raging hot anymore either.

BunfightBetty · 21/11/2025 07:26

In the space of 12 minutes this morning, as I drank my tea before showering, the site reloaded 14 times and crashed 3 times. Each page has taken ages to load. The speed hs been reminiscent of the old days of dial-up.

Typing on this post has been slow and laggy.

Each thread viewed has had multiple full page ads appear per page of the current account switching service ad. The thread has them jumped and I’ve needed to scroll up and down to go back to where I was.

I’m giving up now.

Thriwit · 21/11/2025 23:33

I used to spend at least 30 mins an evening on mumsnet, sometimes more if I got into a thread, and sometimes at other times of day too. For the last few months I tend to open the site, click on a thread, then within a couple of minutes it does that stupid reload thing whereby I lose my place on the thread, and I just think “nope, not tonight then!”, close it down and go elsewhere.

For a while I just dealt with it and either scrolled back down or opened another thread, but it’s now been going on for that long that I just don’t want to deal with it anymore. It’s incredibly frustrating, and I cannot believe it hasn’t been fixed yet.

Safari on an iPhone here. And I don’t see how anyone can really get a screen recording as you don’t know it’ll happen until it does?

Poinlessss · 21/11/2025 23:35

Yes the sheriff gold star does it

AutumnLeavesFallingFast · 21/11/2025 23:42

Same here. But my major issue is it freezing all the tins.

only on MN.

(iPhone 15, latest update & safari)

& the video ads continue, when I thought Justine said you were stopping them??

EmeraldRoulette · 22/11/2025 15:14

I don't think the site can cope with video ads
I presume that's the reason why it keeps crashing

HonoriaBulstrode · 22/11/2025 15:21

Yep, takes ages to type a post, then it reloads and the post is lost. And takes forever to read a long thread due to constant reloading.

Agree with pp's suggestion, why can't MNHQ replicate the problem for themselves, on their own tablet, rather than relying on users?

BeckyAMumsnet · 22/11/2025 16:13

Thanks for your updates. We're looking into this now.

The reason we ask for screen recordings is because it's generally the fastest way for us to determine what may be causing the issue as we can't always replicate it. We do appreciate that it takes time and effort to send this across - but we really do appreciate it.

PuppyMonkey · 22/11/2025 16:24

@BeckyAMumsnet there was a very similar thread to this several weeks ago and you requested the same videos footage etc then. I’m sure some people said they’d sent you stuff.

This! If it’s happening to us all, then it is very easy for Mumsnet to see what the issue is - there has to be more to this and a reason that it’s not being sorted.

Ijwwm · 23/11/2025 02:09

It’s so irritating. Plus, MN seems to drain my battery life and my iPad gets really hot on this site.

Its really irritating with the constant requests for “screenshots”. It’s impossible to know when the glitches are going to happen. Maybe MN would do better by providing a number of users with an iPad, set up so they can monitor every keystroke (obviously with the user knowing this). It is almost impossible to screenshot every time this site glitches. Please invest in better IT, rather than asking your contributors to do the work for you.

I’d bet my house that, for the majority of people, it really isn’t.

True. It could be alot of things. Like Ram and processor power. i have 2 different laptops, but the same network device.
