So whilst I’m scrolling down and reading it will refresh and I will have to start from the top again

Happens all the time. Never happened when I had the ad blocker on,

Hi, thanks for reporting this. We know it’s frustrating, and it’s tricky to pinpoint exactly what’s causing this issue but we are actively trying to find out.

If you’re able to browse the site and take a screen recording to capture when it happens, that would be a huge help in figuring out what’s going on. If you’re not sure how to record your screen, just let us know and we’ll be happy to guide you through it.

In reality, most users are on this site during breaks in their day. They don’t have time to screenshot stuff, they’re just wanting to engage on here.

Surely you have the resources to do the work that you’re asking your users to do. Most issues highlighted on here are experienced by a number of people. Don’t ask them to provide evidence, invest in replicating it in your own team.

Buddywoo · 28/09/2025 07:39

I'm having the same problem. I have to re-click into active every time I've read a thread and start from the top again. So annoying.

PuppyMonkey · 28/09/2025 08:39

How can we take screenshots of when it happens when it happens completely randomly and you don’t know when it’s going to happen until it happens? Confused

I’m on an iPhone on safari and the annoying video advert at the top of this page is to blame or I’ll eat my hat.

Same with me.

It’s because of the adverts. It didn’t do it when I didn’t see any adverts. It did it before I got rid of the ads, now does it again that I have to see ads.

This has been happening for a very long time (years, I remember posting about it before).

I don’t think anything will work unless you get rid of the adverts, which obviously is not going to happen because you need them.

marriednotdead · 29/09/2025 06:19

I am spending less and less time on MN because of this. Sometimes I like to mainly read the OPs posts but often the page refreshes to the top when I press to see their next post. I then have to scroll through the thread again to find where I was.
After one or two occurrences of that I am done.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 29/09/2025 06:22

Yes, this has been happening since you started putting adverts mid-thread.

RobustPastry · 29/09/2025 06:41

It’s really frustrating and constant the page refreshing and how I think about it, maybe it does date back to the video ads covering more of the the top of the screen (using MN from a phone). The thinner ribbon ads at the top didn’t seem to have this effect. The bigget moving video ads at the top (and the visually gross situation where you have a thin ribbon ad half covered by a bigger moving ad at the same time) seem to cause this a lot.
I only use MN from my phone. It feels like this chucking the user back up to the top of the screen has gotten worse.

As users we do appreciate the improvements that are made. The forcible page refresh has stopped happening if I highlight and copy any text in the message box or in other people’s posts to quote so that’s good.

But I clicked on this thread because I knew instantly what it was going to say about this and then the page almost instantly refreshed throwing me to the top again.

MN has always been glitchy but it’s now very unstable and much more ad-filled which makes for an annoying user experience. I’m on here a lot less than I used to be because I just want a simple uncluttered text based site that focuses on the content.

Its a shame because MN makes a healthy profit as a ‘free’ site (with the quid pro quo that the users provide the content and our eyeballs for the ads to be sold), it would be really nice and would secure MN as a resource for women and parents longer term if there could be more of a user experience focus in the maintenance of its basic infrastructure.

AuldWeegie · 29/09/2025 08:08

it happens right before a video ad tries to appear. It says something about reloading due to a problem.

Sgtmajormummy · 29/09/2025 09:57

Easiest way to make readers log out IMO.
You lose the momentum of the discussion and is it really worth scrolling back to where you were? In many cases, no.

HebeMumsnet · 29/09/2025 10:36

Morning, everyone. Thanks for the additional info on this. We're still looking into it and anything you're able to share with us is really helpful. Obviously the most useful thing would be a screen video of it happening but we realise that's hard to capture, but screen shots of the videos when they appear would also help, as well as any information on what the ads are for, which threads they appear on etc. Thank you.

Deerfolk · 03/10/2025 08:15

Still constantly refreshing.

OP posts:
pickywatermelon · 04/10/2025 07:40

Yes and the latest is that it that the middle section now shows a left to right white _> grey colour that gets stuck upon the refresh

Immensely annoying

Pretty much every time I come to mumsnet

slow, buggy, autorefreshing etc

pickywatermelon · 04/10/2025 07:42

Seems to trigger when you start first start scrolling after navigating to a page / thread

practically impossible to engage with the site

Page keeps refreshing and starting from the top
Trodincatsickagain · 04/10/2025 07:47

Yes this! I’ve bleated on about this time and time again, but it still continues and is so frustrating.

Bladderpool · 04/10/2025 07:50

FGS will you stop asking us to do your job? The content of this site is provided by the users and now you’re asking us to fix all the tech problems and provide “evidence” of all the issues. Every single time someone reports anything you trot out the “what browser are you using?/can you screenshot?” Blah blah blah. It’s obvious no one has any idea what they’re doing and have zero intention of fixing it.

Trodincatsickagain · 04/10/2025 08:35

I’m also finding that if I’m on a page and then press active, it again just refreshes that page and I have to press active a couple of times before it takes me there.

pickywatermelon · 07/10/2025 22:59

Still happening … well on the upside I don’t spend as much time on my phone on Mumsnet anymore as it’s a poor experience

ScoldsBridal · 07/10/2025 23:15

I’m having this intermittently too - the page whites out before it happens - goes completely blank - then comes back at the top of the thread. While I’m here can I second how bloody annoying the Ads are that drop down and sit at the top of the screen. If I’m reading a post it looks as if I’ve had a notification on my phone and my eyes flick up to see it’s just another Ad. Obviously designed to be as distracting as possible - it’s certainly distracting!

i must say I’m visiting MN less and less now because it’s a pain to read. I’ve already switched from accessing it via Safari because it doesn’t function at all. I use Chrome now which is better but I still get the issue of going back to the beginning of the thread. I’m on an I-phone 14 pro.

littlbrowndog · 07/10/2025 23:24

Me too

Theresabatinmykitchen · 07/10/2025 23:32

It’s driving me insane, the constant crashing and reloading and then taking you to the top of the thread, why on earth would videoing it help?, it’s pretty self explanatory what is happening. If MNHQ need to see it they can get one of their staff do it from their own personal phone or iPad.

Chemenger · 08/10/2025 09:25

It’s clear that nobody at MN actually uses MN otherwise they could record these problems. There seems to be no testing of anything other than by users. It’s like the fact that the video ads have no “x” on them on an iPad, apparently the only way MN can know this is by users sending a picture. Either this is just a delaying tactic or they didn’t do any testing on an iPad.

NappingThroughTheChaos · 12/10/2025 07:39

@HebeMumsnet @KatyMumsnet is there any update on this please? It’s really ruining my experience of Mumsnet I’m afraid and it’s incredibly frustrating when you’re in the middle of reading a long thread and then it refreshes and goes back to the top. Would be so grateful if it can be fixed!
