'Trending' threads list appearing partway through a thread

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 23/07/2025 22:26

Is anyone else getting this? It seems to have started today and it's really annoying. I keep missing posts as I see the Trending box and think that's the end of the thread. Is there anyway to go back to normal?

When reading a book, you never see a list of the author's books halfway through a chapter because it wouldn't be appreciated...

My main reason is , when part of the way , why would you want to click on a similar thread when you're already reading a different one?

It's not a case of 'getting used to it' , it's a case of what is this strange idea .

Gatekeeper · 25/07/2025 17:41

Very annoying ans absolutely no need for it

YetAnotherNewNameAgain · 25/07/2025 18:13

Especially when its often ad- thread suggestions -another ad that gets stuck this time. By that point, I leave the site, but I don't really want to.

As seems to be the case with most of the changes made recently

Good point about the book.

I'm reading fewer random threads now because the trending list isn't at the end of a thread when I finish reading it.

GeniuneWorkOfFart · 25/07/2025 20:23

Yeah it's annoying.

I kept thinking I was at the end of a thread and going back to active convos instead of reading further!

As others have said, I don't want to leave the thread I'm reading halfway through to click on some random "trending" thread. Fine at the bottom, pointless in the middle.

Who thought this was a good idea or would improve the user experience?

BlueyNeedsToFuckOff · 25/07/2025 20:26

Yes, same. It’s extremely annoying.

Daisymay2 · 25/07/2025 20:26

Yes, me too, iPhone, Firefox browser. Really irritating as spoils the flow and miss part of threads. In my case seems to have been since the weekend.

MyFavouriteDaughter · 26/07/2025 00:20

@LilyMumsnet Please change it back or at least make it an option in settings. It’s really, really annoying.

SpringIsSprung1 · 26/07/2025 04:05

Very annoying, get rid please!

knockyknees · 26/07/2025 04:14

It's very annoying!

YetAnotherNewNameAgain · 24/07/2025 09:06

I assumed it was a deliberate update.

The site is getting messier and messier to use and I'm on here less and less.

Same here.

FiveShelties · 26/07/2025 04:48

It is very annoying. Why would I want to read half a thread and then leave it to read half of another one etc?

NewAgeNewMe · 26/07/2025 06:35

@LilyMumsnet Please please have another look at this. It’s making it so much harder to read and reply to threads as having to scroll up and down to make sure not missed anything important.

CherryogDog · 26/07/2025 09:46

It's an awful feature, please put it back at the bottom.
And please can you also remove the Ann Summers ad, I'm sick of seeing her bare arse when I'm scrolling through threads.

Nocookiesforme · 26/07/2025 10:41

Yes, I'm another who hates it! it completely ruins the flow of a thread so please MN get rid of it and put it back at the bottom where it belongs.
@LilyMumsnet Is this MN's way of trying to make yourselves look like good value for money?????? Duh! It's not working and makes me want to leave.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/07/2025 14:00

I don't like it either.

Could not agree more about the Ann Summers ads!

CaptainMyCaptain · 26/07/2025 14:07

Agree 👍

RaraRachael · 26/07/2025 19:10

Mumsnet is actually becoming unusable.
My messages are still where I typed them even after they've gone into the thread.

Every day some new nonsense. At least I haven't been subjected to the Ann Summers advert 😅

NewAgeNewMe · 26/07/2025 23:12

Just been subjected to the Ann Summers ad. @LilyMumsnet Please get rid of it. It’s completely unacceptable and inappropriate when some of the threads are sensitive.

Monty27 · 27/07/2025 04:46

LilyMumsnet · 24/07/2025 15:57

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. We've introduced this change after some testing, with the aim of making it easier for users to discover other threads that they might find interesting. That said, we completely understand that changes like this can take a bit of getting used to.

We'll be keeping a close eye on how it's used and will take all your feedback into careful consideration as we continue to review it.

@LilyMumsnet nothing worse than being interrupted whilst reading

Daisymay2 · 27/07/2025 22:50

@LilyMumsnet not sure how you tested it but it is really really annoying.
give it up as a bad move please ….

RaraRachael · 27/07/2025 22:56

I think MNHQ need to send us all a questionnaire on the new changes and rethink according to the results.
