Justine calls people who use adblockers 'freeloaders', but what about MN freeloading and stealing my data with their auto play, video ads that freeze my screen until it has played.

Stupid nesquick ad.

Does anyone even use the ads? (Other than giving MN income through accidental clicks and cookies)

The experience on here is still far better with an adblocker than without.

How is it stealing your data?

ConcernedOfClapham · 17/07/2025 19:25

More annoying is continually getting messages asking me to disable my ad-blocker but I’ve never knowingly installed one (and still get ads anyway, so it’s not very effective if I had) 😤

Should get a pass for being a contributor! I post a lot (change name regularly) so am helping their site.
Happy for this site to make money but surely it was enough to have a few static ads and affiliated links. Now it feels like the ads are intrusive.

Because if I’m using 4g (I'm on a plan which is not unlimited), the streaming of the ad uses up my data, which I don’t want to consent to. I manage my data carefully otherwise (no videos etc. except on wifi) so that I have enough data to get through the month.

Can you recommend your add blocker?
the videos really drain my battery too

gamerchick · 17/07/2025 22:59

Am I the one who doesn't get any videos? I don't use an adblocker.

That's actually a really good point.

Another forum I am on awards you ad free status for a week once you have made a certain number of posts. I wonder if that would be worth considering here?

Ah! I see what you mean. I thought you meant there had been another data breach.
