Battery draining and phone getting hot

Tallisker · 12/06/2025 12:44

An hour or so on Mumsnet has chomped through 44% of my battery life and my phone is so hot it’s uncomfortable to hold. Also, the screen keeps dimming and dimming making it hard to read.

only happens on Mumsnet, no other app (and you still haven’t fixed the capital letter at the start of a new paragraph)

iPhone 15, most recent iOS

it’s making the app unusable, please fix!

Oh, thank goodness! I thought it was just my phone.

iPhone 15, iOS 18.5. App version 45.1.0

I too have had to switch the phone off completely and put it somewhere cool. It was so hot it almost burnt my fingers - and I was slightly worried about it exploding.

It’s currently just very warm …

Grrrpredictivetex · 29/06/2025 13:08

I agree with you all. Only ever happens on this app. New iPhone 15 pro max so it isn’t the phone. Please get it sorted @mnadmin

Same thing happening here. My screen goes dull too.

My screen does too! Hadn’t actually linked that before.

Was going to ask if this phenomena damages peoples phones - clearly it does!

It's 2 weeks since anyone from MNHQ commented - seems a bit 'slack' IMO

This happened back in 2023, there were numerous threads on Site Stuff about the app draining the battery and making the phone very hot. Weeks later it had still not been resolved, I deleted the app and have never reinstalled it.

The MN website in Safari hasn’t worked for months, perhaps going back to last summer. There were all sorts of attempts to fix it but it still doesn’t work for me. Same issues re overheating, draining battery and also freezing and preventing me from using Safari for other websites.

On Armed Forces weekend, can I deploy some military slang and ask MNHQ to BTFU? 🤭

I also have this problem! I thought it was just my phone being mega weird. My phone will run really slow, then mumsnet seizes up and the phone overheats.

Wherearemymarbles · 29/06/2025 17:37

I had exactly same using safari, i dont use the app.
i deleted my entire browsing history and cache and problem solved and works fine. Mine is a 2020 SE
i did have to log back in to MN though.
the screen dims when phone gets to hot to stop it over heating

FlatErica · 29/06/2025 17:38

Same here!

I have just stumbled across this thread and so pleased I did as I thought my phone was on its way out!

Evening, everyone. We are aware of this issue and are working on it as we speak. At the moment we're afraid we don't have a solution but as soon as there is any news on it, we will update here to let everyone know.

garlictwist · 30/06/2025 04:48

Just jumping on to say my phone is doing the same thing. Using the app. iPhone (don’t know which one but oldish).

I downloaded the app because Mumsnet on safari stopped working for me too, my phone is now dimming and getting hot when I’m on Mumsnet, I thought it was my phone!

In last few days. Just the app. Happening both on my iPhone 13 and on my elderly iPad.

It’s been happening on my new iPad. I had no idea what was causing it and considered contacting the seller. It was only by chance I discovered it was mumsnet. I access the site online and not through the app.

It’s interesting that google states the infinite scrolling is part of the issue.

I’ve requested to be taken off the infinite scrolling but I’m still waiting over a week later.

According to google: AI Overview

Mumsnet, or more specifically, its mobile app or website viewed on an iPad, can sometimes cause the device to overheat due to resource-intensive processes. This is often exacerbated by factors like high screen brightness, use of the app in direct sunlight, or running other demanding applications simultaneously. If your iPad is getting uncomfortably hot, it's recommended to close the app, restart your iPad, and consider using a different browser or the desktop version of the site.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Why Mumsnet might cause overheating:
Intensive Javascript:
The Mumsnet website, particularly with its infinite scrolling and dynamic content, can be quite taxing on the iPad's processor.

I’m aware of what the thread is about I have written on it before, and if you’d read previous comments this is what people believe is causing it.
