Is there a way to turn off swiping between threads?

I use MN on the Safari browser on my iPhone. I never swipe between threads on purpose, as it’s not how I like to browse. However I regularly swipe between threads by accident, both while trying to write posts and while scrolling up and down. I don’t have this problem on any other site and I don’t think it’s realistic to somehow relearn how to scroll in a web browser. Can I turn off the function where swiping changes the thread? If this isn’t possible now could you consider making it an option? Would be interested to know if anyone actually uses it on purpose, as I can’t imagine people want to swipe through to random threads like that!

PS I only ever have this problem on MN, and it’s driving me completely round the bend as I’ll be trying to read one thread and repeatedly end up on another that I don’t even want to read.

We asked about this when they brought it in because it's so annoying but they like it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hi there @applegrumbling. Thanks for your feedback. This is something we're still considering. About 40% of our users have this swipe facility currently and we're still evaluating how it's going before we make any further decisions so we appreciate everyone's thoughts on it.

I also hate it. I'm always swiping by accident when scrolling in bed. I would never ever choose a function like this, it's infuriating and pointless.

I don't have it and absolutely do not want it. Scrolling when left handed is bad enough already without unwanted threads opening while reading one.

It drives me batty as well. I use safari and I cannot drag the highlight cursor when I’m editing a post without it skipping to some other random thread.

I hate it too. I already have the left hander issue of accidentally liking posts as I scroll down, I could do without accidentally scrolling across to ranom other threads too.

I hate it too! I don't know why I have it! Is this a trial or something? It's absolutely annoying and fries our attention span.

I doubt the 40% are doing it on purpose. I do it by mistake all the time and it’s absolutely infuriating. It’s also unnecessary. Has anyone ever said they like it and want it? If so it’s passed me by…

There are many threads I deliberately avoid clicking on (Child abuse, ones with completely unnecessary photos of genitals or actual faeces, animal abuse etc etc)
Are threads with upsetting or disgusting content exempt from this swiping?

I can't imagine many users asked for this.

How did I manage to get in the unlucky 40% that have it? I’m even more aggravated now I know only some people have it and I could be having a better experience!

I will just add that I work in UX design, and I don’t understand why you keep adding things nobody wants instead of making user-centred improvements.

I also hate it and would like to see it removed. I’m constantly accidentally swiping and not able to get back to the thread I was on.

Hate it. Can’t highlight to cut and paste without it swiping to the next thread. Not remotely useful.

I thought this was a glitch! Why would I want to swipe onto a completely random other thread like a lucky dip. I’m choosy about threads I want to read! Most people are.

Exactly! I doubt MN have any evidence that anyone wants to randomly swipe through ‘trending threads’ as if they are all going to be of interest to the same people (they aren’t!)

This. Copy and paste has gone really weird since the update. Instead of being easy to highlight the text you want to copy, if you try to expand the copy section it flips you to the next random thread. I have no idea why!
