Just got a pop up message about a new updated app starting soon.. how will this work?

Hi @SnowFrogJelly ,

Thanks for spotting the message in the app and for your questions! Here’s what to expect when the new app is released:

  • If you have automatic updates turned on, your app will update to the new version on its own.
  • If you don’t have automatic updates turned on, you’ll need to go to your app store and update it manually.
  • Once the new app is installed, you’ll just need to log in again with your usual details. All your posts, threads, and settings will still be there.

The new app contains lots of new features, including AIBU voting and the ability to thank users for their post. The current app will stop working after March, so make sure to update when the new version is available to keep using the app.

@ErrolTheDragon sorry to hear you're having issues on your iPad! This won't be on the new app as we haven't released it publicly yet. We did release an update to the current app yesterday though so it sounds like this may have been caused by that update. I've just replied back to the thread you started and we'll take a look into this for you.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi @Musicaltheatremum,

Thanks for reaching out. We've looked into this and are now aware that this is caused by a bug in the message that's causing it to not work properly with a larger font/text size. Is the text on your device increased from the default via your settings? We're very sorry that we missed this!

There is a way around this that may work for you if you're able to navigate on your device briefly with a smaller font size. I'll share instructions below:

  1. Open the Mumsnet app so the message is visible on your screen
  2. Navigate away from the app, but keep it open in the background as you'll need to come back to it shortly.
  3. Open 'Settings' on your device.
  4. Navigate to the part of your settings that controls the size of the font on your device.
  5. Reduce the size of the font on your device - this will just be temporary
  6. Open the Mumsnet app again with the smaller font size - the text in the message should shrink and you should be able to select the 'Got it' button at the bottom of the message.
  7. Once the alert is gone you won't see it again unless you delete the app and reinstall it again. So you can navigate back to your device settings and change the font size back to what it was previously.

Very sorry again about this! It's a temporary issue that will be fixed when we launch our new app very soon.
