Did something actually happen on Sunday night?

woodenbatandball · 04/02/2025 06:42

I was reading a post that said the site was infiltrated with child abuse images on Sunday under some kind of attack.
Lots of people hadn't been online to see this but some said they did. The thread was then deleted and there has been no explanation. And the media is silent about it. Can anyone confirm if this actually happened and if it did, why aren't Mumsnet commenting? All seems badly handled for Mumsnet not to comment either way.

Generally, these kind of events aren't widely publicised to reduce the likelihood of copycats.

woodenbatandball · 04/02/2025 08:42

@Deebee90 why not? If Mumsnet haven't put an official response out where I can find then sorry I will post about it. Instead of getting angry at me get angry at Mumsnet for a piss poor response

@LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife whilst I appreciate your situation. I think those two f us who didn't see them should expect some formal statement clarity from Mumsnet. Online safety is massively important and this feels more damage limitation from Mumsnet than trying to protect any of us. If someone can spam the account with horrific child abuse images what else can they do, access our personal details?

Posting an image (or more) is a little easier than hacking for your personal details HTH

Secondly, if you looked around the site to see what's on site stuff, you may have noticed that it's already being looked at. After all, where did you hear about it?

woodenbatandball · 04/02/2025 08:44

@rivalsbinge I assume you think I'm media. Which I'm not. I'm just trying to find Mumsnet actual response, which nobody has been able to show me. If you're that upset with all the posts why are you even reading them?

OP posts:
woodenbatandball · 04/02/2025 08:45

@DiegoVanDamme if you read my post I was following a thread about it yesterday (prior to this I didn't know anything had happened) and then Mumsnet deleted it. Which made question if anything had actually happened (hence this thread) I'm now being told I'm media, or gossip whoring.

sparrowflewdown · 04/02/2025 08:46

I am concerned. I also posted a thread in Gransnet that was trending and now I can't access the site! I see the PP has now had their post deleted.

I will probably be blocked from MN now and this post deleted too. Why is MN doing this to us?! I haven't done anything wrong I just narrowly missed seeing the CSAI and want to discuss it with other MNetters.

GCAcademic · 04/02/2025 08:46

You managed to find your way to Site Stuff to post this thread but can't manage to find the large thread in Site Stuff about this issue, and click on the link to take you to MN's response?

You can find the MNHQ post on a thread in site stuff. Agree there should be a separate pinned response on the incident though.

woodenbatandball · 04/02/2025 08:48

Someone posted a thread but I looked at it and couldn't find the MN response.

Everything we need to know up till now is on the other thread.

Lots of fanning the flames going on atm. We don't need multiple threads titillating the person(s) responsible who are watching this site like a hawk.

The people who posted the spam will likely be watching the boards for the reaction and enjoying the distress they have caused. There are good reasons for not giving them that gratification

woodenbatandball · 04/02/2025 08:50

@gamerchick where is the actual Mumsnet response? I can't find it in the random thread on night watch. If I tag Mumsnet here I would to ask them to show me.

MNHQ have involved the police regarding the images, they have disabled uploading photos, they are looking at ways to prevent it in future, and no doubt their lawyers/police are prohibiting them from commenting further. The site was not hacked.

The posts are difficult to find in that thread but there were at least five MNHQ posts last night.

Yes I see that now and that makes a lot of sense there is no other explanation.

It is very easy to see MN's responses on a thread as they are all highlighted in blue. The OP is coming across as very disingenuous.

myplace · 04/02/2025 08:54

There will be a formal statement I’m sure- when all the details have been fully understood.

I imagine they will be looking at ways to ensure it doesn’t happen again, why it happened in the first place, ways to assist the police with their investigations, talking to lawyers, putting support in place for those traumatised by what happened, finding a replacement plan for night watch…

Then when everything is in place they’ll share the plan.

All they can say until that’s done is ‘fuck, that shouldn’t have happened’.
And they are deleting multiples of the same thread so that information isn’t scattered across different threads and hard to find.

woodenbatandball · 04/02/2025 08:56

@GCAcademic please,
Please show me where? I scrolled and couldn't find it. I feel this is like the blood traitors. I'm just a regular mum, with zero support network that uses Mumsnet to moan, chat and sometimes have fun. I'm not a Daily Mail reporter under cover! FFS. I was happily following on another thread until Mumsnet deleted it x
