Thanks from “anonymous user”?

Sorry if I’ve missed something about this, I did scroll back a little way but I don’t always keep up with Site Stuff developments.

I added a post to a thread earlier and on returning to the thread just now, noticed it had garnered a like so I clicked to see who from. It said “anonymous user”, complete with space so obviously not just a username. Is this a thing now? And if so, what’s the rationale? No one else can see who likes a post other than the author of it, so why the need to be cloak and dagger about it?

Hi @serialcatbuyer - it most definitely isn't someone hacking the site.

OP, thanks for raising this. When someone signs up for an account, they don’t automatically get a username - it’s been like this since the big site transformation.

If a user wants to post, they need to set a username - but if they don't post, they won't have a username. This means that they can thank anonymously.
