Tweaking the childcare section

Please would you consider adding Settings or Providers or something to the end of the Childcare section title?

So many people just scroll down the alphabetical list to find the topic for their question and it's misunderstood and used it as a catch all for everything from breast feeding to medical questions.

Not only is it frustrating for those of us who follow the Childcare topic (getting notifications for threads that aren't right) it must be annoying for the posters who then don't get the answers they are looking for as their threads get overlooked.

I really feel tweaking it to be called Childcare Settings for example would clarify what the topic is for.

Please 🙏

I'm guessing they'll be no changes but can impost a screenshot of the current top threads on there...

4 are for benefit chat, the exact same one just multiple threads going on it

1 is one about bottoms- should be in health?

1 is about SEN child at school. Again nothing to do with childcare

Paid Childcare would be a sensible change. That would also put it next to Parenting in the full alphabetical list so anyone not sure which one would then see the two together and that ought to make it clearer which is which.

Could we revisit this? Multiple posts every day in the wrong section.

@mnhq You must be fed up of moving them?

Can MNHQ please confirm if they intend to change the section name or not, there surely can't be any need for further internal discussion after all this time.

nannynick · 23/06/2024 06:13

Why is this still a debate. Put it back to what it was. Childcare is too generic.

Move off all the non-childcare posts.

One of the most annoying things, is following an upgrade of the site, we are encouraged to 'follow' certain topics. As a childminder, I follow 'Childcare'. I therefore receive notifications every time a new thread is posted there and what a waste of my time it is, every time it's nothing to do with Childcare.

I report them but have given up in the last 2 days as I receive an email to say thanks we'll take a look...only for the thread to remain. Why? Have MNHQ given up too?

If you think it's petty and doesn't need organising then why have topics at all? Why not just have one great big open forum?

I agree a clearer name would be helpful.

nannynick · 23/06/2024 10:11

Newbie posts their first ever post in Childcare about Infant Feeding.
So why does that happen? How come they did not find the Infant Feeding, Health, Being A Parent or any other section?

Childcare - it's the wrong name. It's too generic.

Please change it.

Childminders, Nannies and Nurseries
That is quite short, fits in the same alphabetical list of the app. Is more descriptive.

I've stumbled across this thread and my first thought was why are posters complaining about child care issues in that section. Then I realised what they actually meant, and I agree with the OP. Why wouldn't it be titled paid or professional childcare if that is what it's actually about??

I see lots of threads in the wrong areas so surely the more clear the section title is, the better.

Hi all - thanks for your patience. Before we consider anything further, we've clarified the topic disclaimer to read: From childminders to au pairs, join the conversation for advice & shared experiences of paid childcare.

We'll keep an eye on whether this has any impact.

Sadly, this has had no impact whatsoever

@BeckyAMumsnet @HebeMumsnet @LilyMumsnet

Will you be changing it now you've tried and seen it's not worked?
