Threads that get pulled for breaking Talk Guidelines

Hi Mumsnet Admins

I have a suggestion for you and I'd like to hear your opinions on it please.

When a thread gets pulled for breaking the Talk Guidelines and you post up saying as much, would you be able to stick into the reason which of the guidelines they discussion broke, causing it to be pulled?

Also, as I type this, they are actually 'guidelines' not rules or laws for posting on Talk, so why are threads getting pulled at all? If they were Talk Rules and everyone had to adhere to the rules, then I think it would make things a lot clearer as to what can and cannot be posted on MN.

Just a suggestion and an observation.

Hi @LookItsMeAgain . Thanks for the thoughts; we will pass them on. In general, we do try to give a reason for threads being pulled. Sometimes there's more than one reason so that might be a case for simply saying 'talk guidelines have been broken' and sometimes (usually, but not always, in the case of a troll) we need to delete multiple threads quite fast so you may see a more generic message then as we're prioritising taking the threads down over giving full and frank explanations. So those are a couple of reasons you might see posts like that. We do try to give as much information as we can but we'll take that on board. If ever you have further questions, particularly if it was your thread, you can always drop us a line and ask.

On that note, @Ramblingnamechanger, if you'd like us to look into your posts further, hit the report button on your post above and let us know and we can look into that for you and let you know more off the boards.

With regards to calling them 'guidelines' rather than 'rules', generally, we try to be as flexible as we can. We know that moderating decisions often have grey area and equally we understand that when posting, people have grey area and nuance, can be misread or misunderstood. When we feel someone has strayed outside of talk guidelines it's rare that we'd ban them straight away (unless it was quite clear they were here to cause trouble); we'd generally delete posts first, have a word if it continued... you get the picture. Calling them 'guidelines' hopefully reflects that flexibility a bit, though yes, as you say, we do expect people to stick within them generally speaking.

Hope that explains it all a bit further, but as we say, we'll have a good think about your points.
