Notifications and app questions

For some reason I've started to get notifications about threads, not ones I've posted on or that I'm watching.
I've not got notifications turned on in my settings and I don't want to receive them.
I use the Web page, I don't have the app installed because I find it harder to use, partly because I struggle to read text which is not black on a white page.
Onto my next question, which is why whenever I follow a link to another thread, it opens up the app, so I have to click watch this thread, and close the app to read the thread. Despite not having the app installed.
I don't think it's my phone as it happened on my old phone too. Although I did install, and then deleted the app, but it's never been installed on my current phone.
Any ideas please?

Hi CherryogDog, we'll answer the first part of your query first. Can you please go into your Settings and check that all of the Notifications boxes are set to No - there are 7 boxes in total, including one to notify you if you've voted on an AIBU thread. We're hoping that one or two may have inadvertently been set to Yes, which would explain why you're receiving these notifications.

Are you able to go onto the desktop site? If you do that and click on the down arrow beside the word Talk at the top left of any page, then click on Customise, then Notifications, then Email Notifcations, you should then be able to see the full range of options.

Right, you seem to be in the Talk Settings page and have scrolled down to the Watching Threads part. If you scroll back up, at the top of the page you'll see a box that says 'More Settings' - if you click on the down arrow, then click on Notifications, then Email Notifications, you should be able to see all the options.

After we find out if any of those are set to Yes, we'll investigate why you're getting notifications about threads you've not posted on... Sorry for all the faff!

Hi again @CherryogDog . It might be that you have opted in to browser push notifications so you'll need to switch those off in your browser settings. Can you tell us what device and browser you are using? If we have those, we should be able to talk you through turning those off.
