MNers abroad seeking UK/international abortion care info

DetalMetector · 29/12/2022 16:14

MNers in countries where abortion is restricted are asking for help on the site to get information, advice or support and safe access to care because (where they live) these websites are blocked.

Could MNHQ consider keeping a perma-sticky up with email addresses and phone numbers of reputable abortion advice and early abortion pill provider websites like Women On Waves and Women Help Women etc? so that posters living in countries that might block such websites, can at least then see legitimate contact details for sources of advice and help, and can access these contact details directly for themselves?

The sticky would just be sharing already publicly available contact information in the UK, and it could be added to eg the Expat and the pregnancy choices sections of MN for example.

Thank you HQ.

I think this would be really helpful so it gets my vote.

DetalMetector · 29/12/2022 18:17

Thanks. It feels like one of those time-sensitive situations in which women need to be able to get the contacts to go straight themselves to an authoritative source of information and help.

I really hope this could happen just as a small help to women who find themselves in an incredibly difficult situation.

Please yes MNHQ. I've lived in a few countries and know it can be very difficult to access healthcare!

scaredandanxious01 · 29/12/2022 20:55

It gets my vote too

coldfeetmama · 29/12/2022 21:27

Please don't forget The Abortion Network also

Can provide support guidance and often funding for women in those countries where it is difficult or impossible to access this care .

FluffyYucca · 29/12/2022 21:51

This gets my vote as well

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 30/12/2022 00:15

Abortion Support Network?

Yes.

If anyone wants to donate money, they are a good shout.

Just a tip as someone stuck in this situation - mumsnet should add the contact number emails of all the organisations helping out as most of their sites are blocked. I really struggled to find contact information

DetalMetector · 30/12/2022 10:38

@MNHQ posters have been making important points here, do you think that this is something that you could add?

Yes please, this is a great idea.

JoMumsnet · 30/12/2022 12:00

Thanks for suggesting this, @DetalMetector - this seems like it would be a helpful addition to the support links we provide. We'll be talking to our Content team but in the meantime if there are any other organisations which may be relevant, please continue to list them here.

We'll be monitoring this thread and will be back with an update as soon as we can. Thanks again.

DetalMetector · 30/12/2022 12:05
