We know it's fake! Leave it alone!

I am more than aware that a lot of threads are fake. But if the discussion is good it's enjoyable. Why delete it? This place has seriously gone down hill compared to previous years. There's no good threads, the app is falling apart and then anything good that does arrive you zap!

Just leave it up!

I've been called a troll on the Reddit group.

I totally missed that it was supposed to be a "funny" thread. And I reported and reported it. And it took ages to come down.

Both the troll and the supposed parody.

I would feel horrendous if those threads were still there. It's bad enough as it is.

Time for another name change methinks.

What that poster said to you was disgusting.

If some posters weren't so gullible and naive, there wouldn't be any need for trollhunting!

Absolutely, it is amazing how people believe some of the most bizarre threads.

I always imagine a group of creative writers competing to see who gets the most responses to a troll thread.

mountaindewview · 11/10/2022 11:33

Thank you both @vodkaredbullgirl and @ZeroFuchsGiven

I don't want to rehash that thread, but there's a danger that threads that are an obvious parody to some aren't to others and cause a lot of upset.

How will mumsnet make that call? It was hard enough having the thread there on a Sunday for as long as it was. Having a thread there for all eternity would mean I could never step away from it (as a function of my autism it's very very difficult for me to step away when a thread is still going and I'm being pulled back by being mentioned) and would compound my upset.

@mountaindewview Flowers

Thanks @PAFMO

Hi @mountaindewview if we're thinking about the same thread then it was absolutely the right call to take it down. We're sorry that you were upset.

Hi @mountaindewview if we're thinking about the same thread then it was absolutely the right call to take it down. We're sorry that you were upset.

It probably is - but it's the more general point I'm making not that specific thread.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 11/10/2022 14:11

@mountaindewview yes - point taken. There's (as you can see) a range of opinions on this but broadly, if a thread was upsetting people, we'd be more inclined to remove it if there was no compelling reason to leave it to stand. We'll have a think about all thoughts here in any case.

mountaindewview · 11/10/2022 14:14

But @YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet the thread I'm referring to - apparently everyone else got it and thought it was funny.

I didn't.

And I got upset. And got upset at the many posts telling me to calm down and be less autistic.

But the thread was apparently a parody thread. Which under these new rules, would be left.

And that's a bad call, in my opinion. And muddying the water means some would be left (like that one). Surely a clear no troll threads is just clearer?

sunshineandsuddenshowers · 11/10/2022 14:22

oh this reminds me of a thread years and years ago about a poster finding their DP/DH in bed with the saucepans. Does anyone else remember it? It was entirely fictional (they admitted it, a few pages in) but it made me cry with laughter.

SOme like the maternity leave threads that were on a day or so ago actually had some useful information in them (Pregnant Then Screwed as a charity for example) that when deleted you do lose if someone searches

Did that one turn out to be fake/a troll? I did read it aghast that someone could be treated that way, but thought in this current society I could truly see it happening.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 11/10/2022 14:51

@mountaindewview there are no 'new rules' - sorry if we've not been clear. We'll look at things on a case-by-case basis. We'd likely remove a thread about a thread if it's carrying things on.

CuriousCatfish · 11/10/2022 17:12

Some parody threads are funny though. Are they trolling? I dunno if they are really.

Do people want to provide material for pervs to wank to, though?
