Click on next page and navigated away to an advert site

Just went to click on the next page of a thread I was reading and MN navigated me away to another site which looked like a huge advert for phones.

It's happened twice now, the first time I thought I accidentally clicked the ad at the side of the page (showing cars FWIW) but nope second time I definitely clicked the page navigation button.

Had to use the back button to navigate back to my thread.

@MNHQ any ideas?

Same here. I was just scrolling down the page and suddenly got taken to a site that says I have been randomly selected for s survey. I have to click twice to get taken back to the page I was on. Then the exact same thing happened again. It was not an advert.

I had to close down the entire window.

Very annoying. Feel like a virus.

I got the lottery one again. Then I got another one to apply for benefits.

These is getting ridiculous.

Hi @blueshoes & @HatThatWearsYou,

We're sorry about that! Thanks so much for flagging.

The team are looking into it now. Would you be able to tell us if you were on desktop or mobile when it happened?

Any information about your device and which browser you were using would also be very helpful!

If this happens again, please could you screenshot the website that you're directed to? We'll try and locate where this is coming from.

@AmeliaPMumsnet thanks for getting back to me.

Good news is I have not had that problem today.

I went onto another website (not mn) and got the same issue. So the hijacking of the screen may not be specific to mn but maybe my laptop.

I completely shut down my laptop overnight and so far it has not occurred.

If it does, I will let you know.

blueshoes · 07/10/2022 21:01

I should have said I am on a PC laptop and using Chrome.

LilyMumsnet · 07/10/2022 21:29

Ah, no worries - thanks so much for keeping us updated.

Interesting, will virus scan now just in case although I only did one the other day but it's not happened to me here today either. I haven't had it happen elsewhere though.
