Please change it back. There’s no need for this.

what a surprise
those of us who don't like this or perish the thought due to disabilities cannot access the site just need to shut up
@Neverendingdust
you do know some of us have different opinions and needs and are perfectly within our rights to express them
how fucking typical of the self absorbed respect demanders at the moment

Antarcticant · 13/09/2022 12:08

It seems a pointless gesture, turning the banner black, when the rest of the site is dominated by grinning photos of Micky and Minnie Mouse in jaunty red and white spotted outfits.

Hi again - we've checked and the header passes Level AAA Web Content Accessibility Guidelines - though we do appreciate that some of you may strongly disagree with that assessment!

If you want to turn off the fixed navigation at the bottom you can do this by clicking on "hide shortcut buttons" if you're logged in (image below) - but the colours will be back to normal by next week in any case. Thanks.

As far as I am aware web content accessibility guidelines set a minimum level of colour contrast for people with visual disabilities. They don't set a maximum contrast level for people with neurological disabilities. It's this group of Mumsnet users who are telling you that this change is negatively impacting our access.

This feels like a massive “we don’t actually care about what our users think”. Just suck it up until is changes back. I guess eventually everyone shows you who they really are.

Incredibly disappointed that it ended this way.

Indeed. Why ask for specific details of what we're finding difficult and why, if you're going to then dismiss it because the change meets guidelines for another disability. It's pretty insulting.

BlueThingie · 13/09/2022 20:49

This sort of performative nonsense is the opposite of respectful.

dudsville · 13/09/2022 20:52

I understand it's temporary, but I'm also sensory impaired and we're not so the same, i love it. I always have my screen brightness right down and the eye comfort shield onand this temporary black and white mode is good for me!

Cryalot2 · 14/09/2022 21:33

The yellow on black is giving me a migrain .
The light background was much easier read.
Why change ? It worked ok as it was.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 14/09/2022 22:19

For those struggling the phone app hasn't changed.

You shouldn't have to alter your usage but this might help.

It is really poor that Mumsnet aren't offering an opt in/out or responding to feedback. People with visual impairments are so often forgotten, I get sick and tired of the carelessness of organisations meaning I have to read aloud to my Mother who could read signs/menus/websites perfectly fine if they were designed with some consideration.

Wow @StopStreet I've never heard of that, but it's exactly what I'm trying to put into words up thread and for me the dark band makes it worse. A bit like shining a torch in someone eyes, it takes a while to return to normal.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/09/2022 07:54

For those struggling the phone app hasn't changed.

The iPad app (probably the same interface on all tablets?) is also unchanged. I don't have any disabilities but at 60 my sight isn't what it was and I find it much clearer and easier to read than the browser version. I just use the latter if I need any of the features not supported on the app.

@Fladdermus that's what I thought. I have it and you can get specialist tinted glasses for it which help to a lesser or greater extent. They can also help with depth perception, stairs etc.

StopStreet · 15/09/2022 08:19

I shared it in case people recognised it in themselves, and also so mumsnet will see it's a genuine disability.

This is the final straw. I’ve been hanging on through all the site changes and I’m finally done. Every thread is now harder to read because of the thick black bar across the bottom that’s been done with no thought for how the users will find it. No engagement with the feedback a about how it’s harder to read now.

Signing out for the last time.

how dramatic

didn’t last long though Hmm

FreddyHG · 15/09/2022 08:41

I actually find it easier to use. There is a reason Teletext or ceefax was white on a black background and indeed why dark themes are becoming more popular. So long as it passed the accessibility guidelines and standards I think it's fine.

I suspect most of the complaining comes from those who just don't like the monarchy.

Anyway I'm thought the op had signed out for the last time.
