LollingAround · 08/09/2022 18:51

I dont know if there is a royal topic but could we have a new topic for all the threads that are going to be started about the death of the Queen. Otherwise they will be all over the place.

Thank you

Do the thread police have sirens fitted?

Eh?

I laughed at that one😂

It won't work. It's a big thing and it'll be spread out for a bit. Pace yourself, we have the funeral yet. Brexit threads don't get moved, covid threads don't get moved. These won't either. People want to talk about it.

We do need one.

This will be the main topic of conversation till Crimbo

Might be a brief break in the middle to moan about trick or treating being begging and fireworks being too loud.

How vapid do you have to be not to acknowledge this is a huge news story and just scroll past or hide the threads that don't interest you.

What a weirdly rude post. Obviously it's newsworthy but that doesn't mean I want to read millions of threads about it. It was the same with Coronavirus. Having all the threads in one place means there is less likely hood of thread topics being duplicated.

I'm sort of interested in bits of it, mainly whether I will be adversely affected now tbh. (Eg cancellations, travel disruption).
I feel like it was sad, like any peaceful death of someone decent, but has no impact emotionally on me. I have respect for people who are upset, even if I don't understand them.

Rude? 😀

So don't read em. I scroll by the million air fryer threads per day. You can do it!

Sparklingbrook · 08/09/2022 20:42

You can also hide threads individually as you go along. No need to scroll by even.

That’ll be Site Stuff which TBF the OP has posted in. 😂

Hi @LollingAround thanks for your suggestion but we don't have any plans to start a new topic.

The Queen's death is such a momentous event, it's inevitable that it will dominate the Talkboards for some time to come. And while we do have a Royal Family topic, we accept that people will be posting in various other topics across the site.

As others have suggested, the best thing to do if you'd rather not see these discussions is to hit the 'Hide this thread' tab on individual threads.

I knew someone would say that. However, site stuff contains lots of useful threads that I don't want to hide, whereas I would gladly hide the frequent requests from people who want to cleanse the general topic boards of any kind of comment on current affairs.

Of course, I'm not actually saying that I want MNHQ to create a separate board for these requests. I'm just making the point that we all have content that we find tedious or excessive in some way.
