Email says I have been sent a PM but I can't find it

I got an email today saying I have been sent a private message, yet when I go to look, it isn't there.

There are dozens going back years, most of which I thought I had already deleted long ago, but no new ones at all, so what's going on? Has anyone else had this issue?

I had one of those earlier this week. Assumed it was some sort of fuck up

I have a little blue circle with one in it but no PM, and all my ancient PMs have also reappeared.

Hi @takeitandleaveit - thanks for posting about this.

There are two possible reasons this could be happening... If you take a look at this SS thread, KatyMumsnet explains that we had a recent glitch to do with ghost notifications and very old PMs showing up again. Please take a look at the thread for more information.

The other reason could be that the PM was sent by a spammer, and has been automatically removed by us at MNHQ. We're taking a closer look into this now but in the meantime we're sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

@JoMumsnet Thanks for that, yes I think I remember about the very old threads being a known issue. This one yesterday was supposedly new, but when I used your search function for the username it was non-existent, so I'm guessing, as you say, it was a spammer who was deleted.
