Feature update - Threads I’m on / Watching / Started lists

Hi, another quick update about a feature change that was just released.

Following the re-platforming we had a lot of feedback about the threads I’m on/ watching / started lists not being as useful as they used to be.

Changes we've made:

• The lists are organised by default to show the most recently updated threads apart from threads I started which defaults from new to old

• There will be a ‘new post’ icon next to the threads that have been updated that will tell you how many new posts there are to read since you last saw the thread e.g. 2 new posts

• When you click through on the title you’ll land on the last post you read

• When you click through on a specific post you’ll go directly to that post

• Deleted threads will still be visible and you have the option to remove them from your list by clicking the three dot menu to the right of the thread title

• You can still pin threads to the top of the lists using the pin feature under the three dot menu

Don't like TIO on the mobile site. Big and chunky and now only shows the two most recent posts for each thread. Three was bad enough. Means I have to scroll a lot more. Good to know about the clicking in the title though, that sounds useful — but very nonstandard and not transparent.

Aaaand I just tried out the only feature I thought I'd like. Clicked on the title, and it just took me to the beginning of the thread.

So yeah, bad all round. TIO is my usual landing page for using MN and it's now even less useful and even more annoying.

Functionality seems good but the font and spacing are very big on the mobile site, it takes up far more space on the screen with less information.

Can you maybe make the threat title a different colour/size to the names of the posters in the list? Eh you can see in the attached pic that my name is the same size as the thread title.

Hm. Title-clicking working for me now.

Still not very pleased with how little text is visible on my screen on TIO — only the two most recent posts on the two most recently-updated threads.

Oh dear, this is terrible. I can only see the two most recent posts and everything is huge and spaced out. Completely unusable.

Awful. You can't open in a new tab from the TIO page, only from a post. So it default takes me to the last post, not my bookmark.

Please make it possible to open in a new tab from the title.

I am finding the following issues (on laptop)

• Right click on the title to open a new tab is not allowed - right click to a new tab only on the two new posts which means i don;'t then get to where i bookmarked the thread

• Taking me to the last read isn't what i want - so why bookmark? I often bookmark the OP's last post and want to see if there are any updates, not ten posts asking where the OP is...

Totally agree, I open a whole bunch of tabs and don't like having to keep going back and forth

Now it's working, I quite like the thing where it goes to the last post you read. Still don't think it's an intuitive interaction, though.

Hi @KatyMumsnet I really like this, looks and works fine for me using desktop site on ipad safari.

I would like to be able to bulk delete olds threads from TIO/TIW, rather than individually.

I can no longer click and hold on the thread title and bring it up in background (on iPad) I can only click and open each thread. I used to queue up those I wanted to catch up on, but now have to keep going back to threads I'm watching. Not the end of the world but a bit annoying.

I have to say I hate the appearance of the update on TIO and TIW.

I was one who was regularly asking for a 'remove' option to the long list of TIO that get returned so you can only see the ones you want to be reminded of but was that not possible in the previous layout?

I also used to be able to right click on the titles of the threads and open them in a new tab (on a laptop using Edge Chromium) and now I can't.

It looks clunky and the layout before was minimalist and worked well. If we could get the functionality we have now but with the previous appearance of how the threads were displayed, that would be great.

Hi all, apologies for the delayed response! Thanks for the feedback. Here are some responses to the issues raised:

Increased size of text - we did this because there were a number of complaints about accessibility on this section due to small fonts. We will discuss whether we can make the title more obvious though as it is now the same size as the previews of the newest posts.

Layout - the layout hasn't actually changed apart from the size of the text and the alternate blue highlight has been removed, it only appears now if you pin threads so that there is more definition between the pinned threads and the rest of the list.

Opening threads in new tabs - this is on our list to fix so you'll be able to do this soon.

Honouring bookmarks - Clicking through to the last read post is the expected behaviour on these lists, as the purpose is to show you the updates since you last saw the thread. If bookmarks took priority then it might be confusing for many users who have added an older bookmark but are expecting to click through to read the latest updates. A few users have reported that they want to click through to bookmarks so we will discuss it - we are discussing a new feature that will let you save your bookmarks to a list so you can find them again - this might be a better solution if that's what you're trying to do!

Mass deleting - this is a fairly big change to the feature but we will discuss it and see what we can do!

I will say I have found out I can open posts in a new tab if I click on one of the comments in the post, just not the post title

I preferred the previous layout (perhaps it was the font size that did it) because when I was browsing while at work (I know I shouldn't but I did) it was slightly more discreet to do it on the previous appearance of the TIO and TIW.

Also the ability to right click on the heading/title of the thread and being able to open in a new tab or window has gone but it's good news that you'll be putting it back at some stage.

The ability to click on the heading and open in a new tab is now live - thank you soooo much Mumsnet admins. Getting that live is just brilliant. Thank you! 😘

What's going on with Threads I'm On?

The list seems to be all the threads I've looked at.

But I don't want to see threads I've looked at but not commented on.

I want to see a list of threads I've commented on, only. You know, how it's been for at least the last 14 years.

Is this an error or deliberate? Can I make it go back to only threads I'm actually on?

If not, I might finally give up on MN.

Hi there @MerchedBeca . This is unusual and not something we were aware of. Can we ask what sort of device you're on, whether you're on the website or the app and which browser you're using if you're on the website?

If you can send us a screengrab of the list of threads you're on (that you're not on!) that might be helpful, too.

I'm now getting the entire text of someone's post (rather than just a two-line preview) appearing for one of the threads in TIO.

Would there be any way to differentiate whether someone is looking at their "Threads I'm On" list to their "Threads I'm Watching" list as they both appear exactly the same to me.

I'm using Edge Chromium on a laptop.

We're looking into that now!
