Why can they keep coming back? Lord knows how many threads they've started now - which seem to run for ages as well, before being deleted.

They know exactly what they're doing. Been here forever. I don't know what they get out of it. There's nowt as queer as folk.

I have been here forever too, since the beginning really. I have seen many, many trolls but this person is different.

I meant they have been here for a long time but they have escalated since the update.

They can only ban an IP address. If the person is using a proxy server they get a new IP address every time. It's literally a game of whack-a-troll.

It got worse last night @BIWI

They hijacked a legitimate thread. A poor poster started a thread about her DH and the troll posted that the thread is now about m&s, aiden blah blah blah.
Anyone who tried to answer the original op, the troll posted numerous posts saying they were now on a "banned" list.
The original op had no idea what was going on and unfortunately the entire thread was removed.

Hi @BIWI obviously, TSSDNCOP - we're unable to stop such invested trolls rejoining the site but we are continuing to work on ways to deter them and improve our methods in spotting them before they take root. We also know that we're very lucky that MNers report things to us (and that so many of you have an astonishing ability to sniff them out in the first place).

What you really mean @YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet is that some of us are just saddoes, here too often and with too much time on our hands

Would it be better to maybe ignore the threads when they come up? Grey rock it maybe. I find that works when my kids get on a repeated thread of nonsense. Maybe if there were no replies they’d just stop.

I agree @Kanaloa - but unfortunately many posters don't recognise the (returning) troll, and take the OP seriously. And this is conflated by those who never bother to read the rest of the thread but just jump on with their own 'words of wisdom'!

@Kanaloa that would be ideal as trolls just want attention. This might happen with an obvious troll but some are harder to spot than others.

Yes I’ve stupidly just realised that of course everyone won’t know it’s a troll immediately. They do tend to start with a relatively normal ish first post. The first time I commented on one it seemed normal and genuine until suddenly all the sucky sucky Mr 4pm stuff started.

I agree with @ElizaJones i thought the poster last night that took over someone's thread and banned other posters seemed a bit more MH issue than on the wynd up. I didn't get the whole Aiden thing though?! How do people know it's them as i assume they are using different usernames?

They say literally the same thing every time, and it always comes back to a young Harry Styles lookalike called Aiden who got the job because the manager (who leaves at 4pm) wants to groom him, utterly disregarding op’s knowledge of perfect pairings and her ‘take a basket’ loss prevention scheme.
