Threads being started with the initial post missing?

There have been a few of these just lately. I go to post on someone else's thread only to find that there is no initial posting. Where do the posts disappear to?

OP posts:

I've noticed this too. There's one at the moment with a 'graphic' title and I nearly posted, but then thought people would think it was me!

coppertop · 24/11/2004 11:56

Me too, ponygirl.

OP posts:
Justine (mumsnet) · 24/11/2004 12:04

Can you give me an example?
Thanks.

Carla · 24/11/2004 12:12

I think it was within the last hour under Relationships. Something like "Rubbish sex life - warning, graphic". Something like that anyway

coppertop · 24/11/2004 12:13

There was one a day or two ago in the Food section called something like "Can I make a banana ripen....right now" and another one appeared at about the same time as I started this thread today but I've forgotten the title.

here

Northerner · 24/11/2004 12:17

This happenned to be a few weeks ago. In the news section about the proposed no smoking bans - I did post a message but it disappeared!

Justine (mumsnet) · 24/11/2004 12:21

This happens when we delete a thread, usually at a member's request. We try not to do it very much but if the member in question is really concerned that they have been very indiscreet then we try and help out. The thread title does stay up though - we'll talk to tech and see if this could be tinkered with - would be better to remove the whole thing than just have the title hanging around.
Thanks for pointing it out.

ladyhawk · 24/11/2004 12:25

i dont want to appear thick...but ive seen message withdrawn what does that mean and why????

nasa · 24/11/2004 12:26

it just means the poster has asked mumsnet to delete it.

ponygirl · 24/11/2004 12:34

Is that the only time though, Justine? I know when Nutracker started her banana thread, she said her message just wasn't there when the thread appeared? (I hope that's right - sorry, Nutty, taking your name in vain!)

Northerner · 24/11/2004 12:36

Yes ponygirl that's what I was meaning. When I started my smoking thread it appeared at the top of active conversations but my first post had gone!

tech2 · 24/11/2004 12:36

Just looking into this now

Nutcracker · 24/11/2004 12:42

He he, yeah you are right PG.

I started the bannana thread, did the title and posted the first message but then when i checked it my message was gone.

Very spooky

Justine (mumsnet) · 24/11/2004 12:44

Oh right - sorry - there must be something else afoot! Will summon his Techliness.

MrsDoolittle · 24/11/2004 13:22

This happened to me too. I started a thread yesterday about UK parents (or the day before). It came up in active conversations without my post. I thought Mumsnet was annoyed about me talking about UK Parents and assumed they had deleted it
I posted it again though, it was all right the second time

MrsDoolittle · 24/11/2004 13:40

okay. This has just happened to me second time now! Not funny anymore

spacemonkey · 24/11/2004 13:41

Your Methanium thread has been posted twice MD but your initial post does appear on both.

MrsDoolittle · 24/11/2004 13:43

No it doesn't

PicadillyCircus · 24/11/2004 13:45

Mrs D's initial post was only on one of the threads (I read the other one first and thought I was going madder than I already am )

spacemonkey · 24/11/2004 13:45

I can see two Methanium threads both with the same initial post. Can't see any with no posts at all?

spacemonkey · 24/11/2004 13:45

Sorry you're quite right, must engage brain in future!

Carla · 24/11/2004 13:46

When I posted on one of them there was no initial message.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 24/11/2004 13:48

Have found the one with the initial message now . I always panic if Mumsnet goes funny - What if it went down AND I COULDN'T USE IT FOR A DAY - Nooooooooo .
