Hello everyone.

After a bump in the road on last week’s attempt (sorry about that) we’re re-platforming Mumsnet Talk tonight. Because of this, the site will be down from midnight tonight (19/4) until 5am on Wednesday (20/4) morning.

For those of us resistant to change - don’t panic! The functionality of the site won’t change very much for now apart from some improvements to existing features like search and private messages. Our plan is to add more features/make updates once we are settled into the new platform.

However, there are a few things that you should be aware of before logging in tomorrow:

The first time you log on to Mumsnet post-replatforming you will need to remember your password. If you can’t (and let’s face it, few of us can) then you’ll need to reset your password. Sorry if that’s a pain - but it is the only secure way to do this.

You may need to update your browser. If you still view Mumsnet on an older browser you may experience compatibility problems with images, videos and links not working properly and you might not be able to post on a thread or fill in a form. To ensure you avoid these kinds of issues, we suggest you update your browser. Please click here for more information about re-platforming and how to update your browser.

And, not forgetting a massive thank you and unMumsnetty hugs to everyone who helped us test the new platform. You’re all stars. Star

If you’ve got any questions or comments, please add them to this thread.

Thank you.

My motto is "no new is good new" but I gotta say the new site looks good, at first glance. I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Natsku · 20/04/2022 05:34

I don't like it.

pedropony76 · 20/04/2022 05:35

It looks fresh and modern. Happy to see that hidden and deleted threads are no longer reappearing in my ‘I’m on’ section and actually seem to have stayed hidden!

Happylittlethoughts · 20/04/2022 05:38

Threads I've read no longer appear in a different colour. That's annoying.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 20/04/2022 05:39

It's asking for my cookie consent every single time I click between pages - iPhone 11 iOS 15.whatever
the threads I've clicked on don't change colour

UniversalAunt · 20/04/2022 05:42

Ugh, font is too small.

How do I increase font size ?
Can I revert to previous page format?

Happylittlethoughts · 20/04/2022 05:42

When you hide a thread can you make it stay hidden ? So many game threads in Chat I have to keep hiding over again.

Somanysocks · 20/04/2022 05:42

Yes, threads I've read are no longer standing out in a different colour, and my contributions are green now instead of pink, so they look like the Op when scrolling.

Rafting2022 · 20/04/2022 05:44

It’s terrible - asks for my consent every 5 seconds and has removed all the threads I was watching.

icklekid · 20/04/2022 05:45

Why are all the thread titles in bold? Even when I’ve read and it posted on them they remain bold?

skippymcskippy · 20/04/2022 05:47

Change! Why is there change out of nowhere!

I really don't like the font colours on the apps on username, why have all contributors gone red? That feels like a "warning" colour to me. It's unsettling!

And the emojis on the app, what's happened there? They're tiny and hard to choose.

SunshineCake · 20/04/2022 05:48

It doesn't feel fresh and modern to me. Currently I have to reject all the stalking each time I do anything and I can't access my PMs.

skippymcskippy · 20/04/2022 05:49

My posts are also in red, so look like everyone else's, which makes it hard to spot "my" posts and double check what I said when I'm replying to someone?

Beees · 20/04/2022 05:50

I'm not convinced it looks fresher to be honest and I'd love to know the rational of having all the thread titles in bold. It looks much more cluttered and it's a lot harder to read. Not a fan at all.

BirdWatch · 20/04/2022 05:53

I logged on before reading this. Do I need to log out and make a new password? Tia.

DropYourSword · 20/04/2022 05:53

Think this will take a little bit of get used to!

Cant believe the Hmm or was it [hmmm] is gone!

KatyMumsnet · 20/04/2022 05:54

Hi,

Thanks everyone for your feedback so far!

We didn't build the threads to change once you've read them so we will take that on board.

The consent pop up should only show once, so if you're seeing it more than once then there is an issue. @Rafting2022 @CloseYourEyesAndSee please can you tell me what browsers you're using so we can look into this?

@Rafting2022 can you contact me via PM or at [email protected] to tell me which watched threads are missing? Everything looks ok from our side.

@UniversalAunt the font size is actually the same as the old site - perhaps there's a setting on your phone to change it?

@Somanysocks sorry that your colour settings haven't carried over properly - if you want to change them you can go here to do that - www.mumsnet.com/settings/talk

@Happylittlethoughts you should be able to hide threads or topics and keep them hidden now. You can do that here - www.mumsnet.com/settings/hidden-threads

OwlOwlOwlCat · 20/04/2022 05:57

My main issue is allowing legitimate interest. I'm sure you know this, but to opt out now is insanely time-consuming, much worse than before. Now I have to click on each vendor to opt out of legitimate interest rather than the options come up when you go to look at vendors. Every time I click on a vendor and then go back it takes me right back to the top of the (very long) list so I have to scroll all the way down to where I was. And then I click back again and have to scroll down all over again...I appreciate it's more preferable to MN/vendors if I just say 'yeah whatever' to all the consent stuff, but it's a ridiculous process to attempt to opt out. Is there any way it can be improved, or even reverted back to what it was?

I also agree with other posters above about the bold font. Tbh I also preferred for a thread to say 'today' if it started today, or rather than the date - I always associate seeing a date at the start of the thread with one that's really old or a zombie thread.

GreenFingeredNell15 · 20/04/2022 05:57

My posts look like everyone else's(same colour) Very confusing

SueMumsnet · 20/04/2022 05:58

DropYourSword · 20/04/2022 05:53

Think this will take a little bit of get used to!

Cant believe the Hmm or was it [hmmm] is gone!

It's still there...we've added a text edit box to make it easier to post links, format etc - there's an emoji button in the right hand corner and all of the Mumsnet emojis are there....

skippymcskippy · 20/04/2022 05:58

Oh and another app problem to mention; I opened Mumsnet earlier, looked at my "threads I'm on", it said no connection (like it does when your servers are down) - but oddly the front page of threads worked. Wondered if I'd been banned for some reason but it worked on the mobile site.

I eventually had to find this thread in at site stuff to work out that I had to log out and in again.

This seems a bit cumbersome, and there must be some people who've looked this morning, thought "oh mumsnet is down" and just left.

Can't you forcibly log everyone out of the app so they have to log in to avoid any confusion in future?

skippymcskippy · 20/04/2022 05:59

Agh! Why are the emojis in that weird order? The faces should all be together to make it easier to choose one.

KatyMumsnet · 20/04/2022 06:01

@BirdWatch if you managed to log in successfully then you don't need to make a new password

@DropYourSword all the Mumsnet emojis have been carried over to this system and you can find them in the emoji picker under the 'M' symbol

@skippymcskippy sorry that your colour settings haven't carried over properly if you want to change them you can go here to do that - www.mumsnet.com/settings/talk

GreenFingeredNell15 · 20/04/2022 06:01

Threads refreshing as if there's a new post on the thread but there's no new post

When I add to a (new to me) thread these threads are not showing on 'I'm on' nor 'I'm watching'

Jbck · 20/04/2022 06:02

Maybe its me:
cant see lots of threads I had open you are looking down the back of the cushions, are they deleted or what
cant view all messages on a thread
colours not quite right, maybe i can fix in settings, will look
doesnt look modern, seems like a retrograde ‘fix’
few other things, other posters have already highlighted

not keen so far if Im honest. Sorry! 😕
