Covid board

Why has this changed its name (name changed!) from Coronavirus to Covid?

I can think of no reason for this, even ones I'd disagree with.

At least make it Covid-19!

unclench OP. It.Doesn't.Matter

GirlInACountrySong · 20/01/2022 19:13

why???

jesus!

Sparklingbrook · 20/01/2022 19:13

I wondered that too.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/01/2022 19:14

Because Covid isn't the only coronavirus (and they've only just realised)?!

JanglyBeads · 20/01/2022 21:29

Surely covid means exactly the same as coronavirus.

Maybe it's an attempt to make it feel endemic - use its nickname like you would for a mate?

Aren't you ever just curious about something?
Topseyt · 20/01/2022 21:55

There are many types of coronavirus. Covid 19 is the disease caused by one particular type and it's variants.

So maybe it is in the name of better accuracy rather than vagueness.

Frogsonglue · 20/01/2022 21:57

At the start everyone called it coronavirus. Now it's just known as covid. I doubt there's anything more to it than that...

Burgersauce · 20/01/2022 21:57

When you realise you need a hobby or a job…

Burgersauce · 20/01/2022 21:57

You will be doing pointless confused faces next OP

Theimpossiblegirl · 20/01/2022 22:00

As long as no-one calls it 'rona. That makes my teeth itch.

GirlInACountrySong · 20/01/2022 22:04

coronavirus was around before the 2019 pandemic

it was saying on bottles of flash "active against coronavirus' or some variation of that, back in 2016!! thats the bottle from my Dads old camper van, been unused that long

Sparklingbrook · 20/01/2022 22:06

I don't see what's wrong with the OP asking.

Maybe the Covid board will have some sub sections?

Moaning about masks
Moaning about Boris
A Covid AIBU topic?

But maybe, just maybe, in a few month's time the Covid topic will be very quiet and none of this will matter?

Princesspickle777 · 20/01/2022 22:20
Hmm

I don't see that the OP says it matters, it's a perfectly reasonable question. I'm also interested in the answer

Happy to be corrected if I've missed the rules that questions on here have to matter to you?

GrinMN Talk would be dead if that was the rule.

JanglyBeads · 21/01/2022 07:03

Glad to have sparked such a lovely debate!

I see there's also a thread about this on the "'rona" board (GrinAngry)

How very dare you spark a debate. Grin Anyone would think this is a Talk Forum Shock
KimMumsnet · 21/01/2022 11:00

Morning!

We changed the name of the board from Coronavirus to Covid simply because it's the name people use more often these days - so it can be found more easily by people searching for it.

Kim.

Ancientdreams · 21/01/2022 11:03

I think it should be Covid-19 now you’ve said.

Piggywaspushed · 21/01/2022 11:47

Maybe you could move it to some dark unvisited area of Talk while you're at it since it is so full of disinformation, it being in the health section genuinely terrifies me.

ADuvetIsNotJustForHalloween · 21/01/2022 11:54

Covid stands for COronaVIrus Disease anyway, with -19 being the year that it was first identified, so...

Yes that's a very good point. Some of the posters that are so sure of their 'facts' is terrifying, and they repeat them on every thread.
