If a chat has a picture that I expand and close, it takes me 3 clicks on the back button to return from the chat!

Which is rather annoying.
If the chat has 2 picture that I expand and close, then it seems to take 4/5 clicks on the back button to return from the chat.

I'm using a cheap Android Xiaomi phone.

Happens with me on iPad, iPhone and iMac, it's very annoying.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 25/09/2021 15:00

Same here on iphone10. Very annoying.

PeppermintMocha · 25/09/2021 15:04

yes always been like this on the desktop, very annoying, but I just end up with the habit of clicking dozens of times to get back. Sometimes I don't bother looking at the photo more closely even if I want to, just because of the hassle.
But it's nothing new.

The site isn't set up to use back buttons properly, and that has always led to problems, like when the irritating pop-ups used to come. If you pressed back, it wouldn't accept that you'd already seen and closed the popup, etc.

I think web designers assume people mainly use menus and links, rather than actually looking at how people really use sites! the back button is so much more convenient

Longdistance · 25/09/2021 17:55

Same on my iPhone. Bloody irritating.

FelicityBeedle · 25/09/2021 17:57

Same here, especially if you look, read the thread then look again. Never know how many clicks I need.

It’s been the case as long as I’ve been on MN but it’s very annoying

ThisIsTheGreatestShow · 25/09/2021 18:04

Yes, this! Super irritating as so many clicks required to get back to the main menu.

Winecheesesleep · 25/09/2021 18:06

I get this too. I started a thread a few months ago on this but MNHQ never responded.

FlissMumsnet · 25/09/2021 19:03

Hi Winecheesesleep - we're sorry to hear you've raised this before; do you remember where you posted?

We understand from this thread that this can happen when using; iPad, iPhone, iMac or desktop. Is that right?

We'll certainly take a look to see if there's anything we can do to improve this function.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 25/09/2021 19:07

It happens on just about every platform you can think of Fliss and it’s been like this since the ability to post pictures was introduced.

ButterflyAway · 25/09/2021 19:09

Same here on iPhone. I hate threads with diagrams attached Grin

EnjoyingTheArmoire · 25/09/2021 19:10

I'm usually on Android, and this is a huge pita.

As with a pp, I often won't click on pictures to enlarge them (even when I want to) because I know it will make navigation more irritating.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 25/09/2021 19:11

It's been happening for years. Any android os, any browser.

I'm currently using Samsung tablet, latest os and Samsung browser.

Catawaul · 25/09/2021 19:14

Happens to me all the time, android.

BillMasheen · 25/09/2021 19:19

Yep. Me as well.

iPad or iPhone. PITA.. I don’t open photos either. Always been like this, but now seems to,be doing it if you bookmark as well.

Winecheesesleep · 25/09/2021 20:49

Hi @FlissMumsnet - here's my thread from a few months ago:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/4261246-Pressing-back-multiple-times-to-come-out-of-a-thread-after-opening-pictures?msgid=107891946#107891946

Thanks for looking into it. I'm on an android phone.

bestbefore · 25/09/2021 20:57

It's because it seems to open the photo in a new url, ending in pretty photo (randomly!) so you are clicking back from that url to the original one. And then back again

Agree it's annoying!

Bontanics · 25/09/2021 21:11

Yep. Always happened to me for years. Using android and desktop. Browsers chrome, Firefox, brave and opera.

FlissMumsnet · 26/09/2021 17:33

Thanks Winecheesesleep for linking your previous thread - we are looking into this to see what we can do to improve this function.
