...but I don't like it.

Is it just me that has had the peace of Friday night shattered (and I don't mean by the twat with the hammer drill at eight fucking 20 on the hottest night of the year although I will get him back)

Mine hasn't changed, but looking at the screenshots @JustineMumsnet it looks so ugly. Why does it have to look so clunky? Are you asking for feedback from your regular users? I'm also of a mind to leave a site if 'improvements' are so ugly.

PurpleWaterBlue · 20/07/2021 15:38

You think this an improvement?

A weird looking black and white contentless home page.

I thought my browser was malfunctioning and/or the site had been hacked and/or somebody's kid had gotten at the code as part of a primary school coding project.

It's your site so you can do what you want. I obviously have no say but, bloody hell, why did you have to make it look like Asda Smart Price does a web site.

Style over substance is often touted as a bad thing but functionallity at the expense of user experience has got to be somewhere up near that in undesirability.

I have noticed this trend towards fuck ugly useless sites over the last two years. Everything hidden behind a couple of short lines up a random corner that limp dickedly flops out a crap tonne of endless hidden menus, options and settings. Makes everything look like shitty Google sites like Play Store.

So many sites going from obvious lay outs and functions to a flipping scavenger hunt for the pages you want.

Cannot say how many sites I know avoid if possible with this type of set up.

I'm on the old app thank god. No changes here.

Well beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess. As said it wasn't a re-design - we've just moved to a new CMS - and I guess there are a few differences in layout. Sorry you don't like it.

Ooh yeah I thought it was broken too (you know when a display just doesn’t load properly but you can see the basics! I thought it was that!) if this is on purpose it’s gross MN.

I think it's pretty neutral myself but you'll find most sites are designing for Google on mobile. We have 80% mobile usage so it's a mobile first UX and I guess that probably does mean lots of menus (as there's not much real estate on the home page). As said this wasn't meant to be a redesign - more of a back end move with some small format adjustments so it works in the new cms. We are planning a more radical redesign over the next 12 months or so and we'll be sure to canvas opinions before making any decisive or radical moves that's for sure.
HopeForTheBestExpectTheWorst · 20/07/2021 16:46

It's very odd. I also thought it was a bug - like you @Amandasummers when a page doesn't load properly but you get the text bits!

JustineMumsnet · 20/07/2021 17:22

We'll certainly take another look at the home page - I agree it looks a little stark on desktop in particular - as said this wasn't a "redesign" more of a back end change over which led to a few tweaks.

JustineMumsnet · 20/07/2021 17:30

(Might be a little while though as we're re-platforming so it's all systems go on that for a bit.)

I've seen the new site now on app, but somehow managed to navigate back to old site. Much prefer the old version - it's easy to navigate and the structure/ font / flow is so much clearer. I really don't like the new version. Please don't throw the baby out with the bath water- keep the old design where it is good (very easy to navigate) and make improvements to enhance that.

I have lost Active -Watch this thread - I'm On - ?trending
Whcih normally sits at the bottom of the page on my iphone. Only way I can get to them is getting to the page which opens when you search for mumsnet (the one with the option to log in or not) and then under Trending (which I don't normally look at as it seems 'Could be a good daily mail headline' would be a better name for it)
So I am constantly reading the top of the Active list as a result and can't follow anything I'm interested in.
Is it something I've done.
