I think this is so important, and something Mumsnet is fantastic at, but for some reason, it is not getting enough attention. I think it would really help, even if it was only for a week or something!

can we please accept that we are not disagreeing with the tragic sitution that a mum is in. I am sure we all want the best result for the mum.
but the subject was STICKIES

Beenleigh · 07/11/2007 23:08

OK back to the stickies, which are undoubtable a brilliant idea

nah terrible

gigglewitch · 07/11/2007 23:15

i think there is a big case for asking MN towers people about providing a 'petitions' section on the talk board, or ways of getting things MN-ers care about on to 'issues of the day', maybe getting something like this on to the top of the board for one day only - or something? i'm not sure that the "stickies" get more attention tbh, they are so 'part of the scenery' that i tend not to take much notice of them sorry MNT

Beenleigh · 07/11/2007 23:19

you are soooo right gigglewitch, the perfect solution! And I'm not just agreeing because I like you!

I only found out what a sticky was just now because of this thread.

I thought that site stuff one was a thread that people were finding unaccountably riveting

Beenleigh · 07/11/2007 23:24

gigglewitch I agree a petitions topic is a good idea. Often I want to sign them. I just HATE stickies

gigglewitch · 07/11/2007 23:30

we will have to ask very nicely.

if that doesn't work then we nag incessantly.
I'm good at that i have a husband and three kids

gizmo · 08/11/2007 10:57

There really has to be a sticky limit: I've been to sites where the whole of the first page of discussion is stickies and it's just ridiculous.

Stickies also imply a mumsnet 'badge of approval' which means mumsnet need to think very carefully before stickying something. If I were them, I don't think I'd be stickying something as controversial as a petition about a case which is sub judice.

Now bumping, I think is much more powerful, because it suggests that people care about it enough to keep it up in the discussion threads. (Or that it is a really good row which would pull people in much more effectively)

gizmo · 08/11/2007 10:57

Oh and a petitions topic is also a good idea.

CarrieMumsnet · 08/11/2007 11:22

Hi all

Thanks for all the suggestions on this. We've discussed it and decided that we're going to be reserving stickies for Mumsnet-related threads. Obviously there are loads of great causes/petitions/threads that folks would like to draw attention to, but if we start doing it for one good cause, it's going to be impossible to know where to draw the line.

So apologies Beenliegh - do feel free to bump your original thread.

We'll discuss the petitions topic idea at our next editorial meeting and get back to you. We've just had a meeting though, so it may take a while, but we promise we'll get back.

Beenleigh · 08/11/2007 11:25

Ahhhhh! I think it's a real pity!! Will you sign the petition then Carrie?

Think it is the right decision

Boogalooblue · 08/11/2007 12:33

I agree with 2 shoes, it is the right decision, I also stand by my comment of yesterday that the abrupt 'please don't' was rude

2shoes · 08/11/2007 14:17

well each to ther own. I don't think it was rude. what is rude is to keep going on about how you think I was rude

Boogalooblue · 08/11/2007 14:18

sorrreeee
