Pressing back after viewing pictures

This has always been the case since I started using Mumsnet several years ago, but I've only just been arsed to start a thread about it! When I finish reading a thread I press the "back" arrow on my phone to return to the list of threads in that section, except when I've looked at a picture attached to a post I have to press it three times to get back. If I've looked at several pictures it's three times for each one which is crazy, why does it do this MNHQ, why?!

I keep meaning to post about this and never getting round to it.

If you view 3/4 photos you end up having to backspace about 8 billion times. V annoying.

I'm glad other people have noticed it too, because I've never seen it mentioned I was half expecting that it was just me!

I've spotted a new (and sporadic) "feature" though: if you view a picture, click "back", the thread sometimes jump back to a bookmarked post, rather than the post where the picture was embedded. It doesn't always do it, but it can be very annoying when you then have to scroll forward to find your place.

Can you let us know what devices/browsers you're using to access the site?

I'm on the desktop site on an android phone, using Chrome.

I get this too on the desktop site, on an iPhone using safari.

I never click back after viewing a photo...just click on the screen outside the picture and you’re back on the main page.

Yes I do this but then when I want to go back to the page with the list of thread titles in that section (can't think what it's called) I have to press back multiple times.

This has always happened for me too! I thought it was a glitch on my iPhone (via desktop site). Very annoying when you want to get back to the main page.

Same. Don't ever look at a thread with cat pictures. It can take days to get back.

Really sorry to hear this is bothering so many of you. We'll get our Tech team to have a look.

It's always done it, it's because when you click on a picture it changes the page URL. It gets little suffixes like #prettyphoto

Can't do video currently but if someone links to a thread that has a picture on it (preferably more than one) I can copy and paste them all (or someone else who understands what I'm going on about can!)

It's always done it... You have to go back along all the breadcrumbs... And each picture has its own url... so back back back you go!

Not really sure why tech team can't see this is happening. It should be popping up using some kind of script independent of the page URL, not generating a URL each time.

Yes! This has been going on for years as pp has said. I think I've had 3 or maybe 4 phones during this time and it's done it on every one, android and iPhone alike. I assumed mumsnet already knew though?!
