It makes perfect sense.
I've seen more and more threads on the step parenting board which aren't step parent related at all, ie from exes or current parents, not step, requesting advice on issues that really have little to do with being a step parent and all to do with co parenting or children of separated parents.
There is a Lone Parents board but this is very different to Co-Parenting, where both parents are still on the scene and involved.
The step parenting board is for support and advice from those who've, ideally, been there or are at least in the same situation.
Surely having a separate co-parenting board for those in either situation means there won't be nearly as much crossover from those with their own agendas, on either side.
Divorced co-parents now account for 1 in 3 families. Step parents around the same. Both carry with them their own very different challenges.
At the moment it seems to me any co parenting issue gets swallowed up on the general Parenting board, Stepparenting, Lone parents or Relationships. None of these are the right place for different reasons. It also means you're not getting a specific pool of users in the same boat. Not many who aren't co parents themselves would go on the coparents board, whereas many would comment on a thread they've stumbled across in, say, the Relationships one.
More to the point, it's no secret how much the stepparenting forum has always been quite anti step parent, and I know so many posters, who actually ARE step parents, have stopped posting on here for fear of who is going to jump on them.
It's time for both to get their say in a supported and informed environment, from those who are actually living it
