Etiquette on names part 2- where have all these other tallulah's come from?

I did mention this on the other "etiquette" thread.. once the system has recognised that there is already a user by that name is there a way it could be set to stop someone just adding a number/ extra letter to create a too-similar name?

And/or a warning that too similar names cause confusion and should be avoided? (For ages I thought Marslady and MrsMars were the same person, for example).

In the last few months not only has a tallulahbelle started posting, but also lulatallulah, talulasmum and now a tallulah72. This latest one has started quite a contentious thread and isn't me!!!!! Any time anyone responds to any of these posters they just type tallulah... makes searching for mine more awkward.

I know I know, I'm being precious but it's really annoying!

there's lots of daisy types as well, some who were members before me I'm sure, and some after.

people choose a name that means something to them....daisy was my cat. I know for a fact that tallulahbelle chose that cos it was what her mum called her when she was little.

In my RL I've come across lots of people with my name...twas very common in the late 60s.....there's no difference really with names on here, imvho.

FlameBat · 15/10/2007 22:24

If we could make Flame17 go poof that would be good

tallulah · 16/10/2007 12:15

but Daisy in RL you can see the person so you know that 2 people called Daisy aren't one and the same. They also have surnames to distinguish them.

When I joined MN back at the start of 2003 I wanted to use the name I already used on other forums but when I tried to register it was already taken. So I chose another, which happened to be the name of my dog. Following your logic I suppose I should have just either mis-spelled my original name or added a number to it?

It is confusing when people choose similar names, especially once you throw the seasonal variations into the mix.

(my profile has stayed with my halloween name so I'll have to change back)

Intrigued... what name did you originally want?

IamDaisy · 16/10/2007 20:45

IKWYM tallulah, but until I had registered with my original name of daisybump, I never knew there were so many daisys on here, so yeah a list of similar names would have been useful. Most of the time I don't come across the other daisys, although there was quite a heated BF thread where daisybo was upsetting a few people, and I was posting as daisyboo, which I won in the MN auction, so changed it pretty sharpish after that as I didn't want my fairl middle of the road BFing stance confused with the rather more radical views put forward by daisybo (again a bit teed off with MN for that cos if I'd known there was a daisybo, I'd never have paid my fiver for daisyboo ).

Anyway, I changed it to daisyandbabybootoo to avoid the confusion.

My latest incarnation is a nod to all the other daisys in a kind of Spartacus stylee

And, i suppose you can't ask people to change really. I've been daisysomething or other for two years, but i think daisyMOO has been around much longer than that.

Gawd, I'm rambling aren't I.

upshot is just adding a few numbers cos the name you've chosen has already been taken isn't on really as you know that poster exists. If originally daisybump had been taken, I wouldn't have just added a number.

like flame though, also intrigued by what name you originally wanted.
