Mumsnet data leak

PollyPocket34 · 30/10/2020 22:52

I had a push notification to say mumsnet had a data leak and my password had been shared.

Did anyone else get this?????

I don't have a clue what my password even is!

PollyPocket34 · 31/10/2020 06:00

I can confirm it's legit.

My apple phone also alerts me when there has been a data breach.

Bloody annoying. I'm deleting my account.

Goodbye Mumsnet!

Bump

PleasantVille · 31/10/2020 07:08

Nothig here, how does your phone know if a site has had a data breach? Seems odd that no one else's does

ShirleyPhallus · 31/10/2020 07:11

Not from me but would like to know

SpectralPlot · 31/10/2020 07:19

.

funinthesun19 · 31/10/2020 07:39

FFS I can’t cope with stuff like this.

whatisgoingtohappen · 31/10/2020 08:05

Just tried to get on to the Sainsbury’s site and was told to change my password as it was involved in a data leak.

@MNHQ can you please confirm whether or not there has been a data leak on your site?

whatisgoingtohappen · 31/10/2020 08:10

Though the password I use on that site is different to my Mumsnet password - and I just got the same data leak message when I logged out and then logged back into Mumsnet.

Derelictwreck · 31/10/2020 08:33

Mumsnet telling you password has been shared is not mumsnet sharing your password.

All websites do this, it mean s your password might have been shared somewhere online so please change it

whatisgoingtohappen · 31/10/2020 08:36

How do you find out which of the many sites you are connected to might have had a breach?

The common denominator is my email address so I would have to change my password everywhere I use that particular email address?

SoupDragon · 31/10/2020 09:02

Goodbye Mumsnet!

But no one else has had a problem on Mumsnet. Isn't the problem therefore likely to originate somewhere else?
whatisgoingtohappen · 31/10/2020 09:13

I got the same message on Mumsnet, but it didn’t say that it had originated here.

Doingitaloneandproud · 31/10/2020 09:17

I haven't received anything, I have an apple phone tooConfused

TikTakTikTak · 31/10/2020 09:21

Doesn't @justinemumsnet need to be tagged in order for this to be sorted?

Or post to site stuff.

Mandalorian · 31/10/2020 09:36

@Derelictwreck

Mumsnet telling you password has been shared is not mumsnet sharing your password.

This. I’ve had it on the odd site here and there. Google checks password breach databases and will alert you if yours in one that has been compromised.

It’s nothing to do with MN.

PleasantVille · 31/10/2020 09:49

@Derelictwreck

Mumsnet telling you password has been shared is not mumsnet sharing your password.

It's a shame the OP won't see this now she's left MN but it makes sense and explains why everyone hasn't had a warning

This is how you find out @whatisgoingtohappen

haveibeenpwned.com/

I've had the same 2 sites on there for years and neither in MN

Weeeare · 31/10/2020 10:13

I’m still dealing with repercussions after the last data leak! My Spotify account and another website site I use this email for both got hacked.

whatisgoingtohappen · 31/10/2020 10:22

Thanks @PleasantVille. Am a bit confused as though my email has been involved in a data breach (I used your link), the last one was in 2019. Yet I got the notifications today.

Will change my password everywhere I can think of.

Icanseethepigeon · 31/10/2020 10:26

If you've an iPhone and have recently taken the upgrade then you will get this a lot, particularly if you use the same password for lots of different sites. It's just a warning, up to you what you do with it but you're going to find it happening a lot.

YetARRGHnotherBeckyMumsnet · 31/10/2020 10:35

Hello there - we're looking into this now, so please bear with us. There's a new feature with IOS 14 to alert users to any security issues with their passwords. If you get a notification, please let us know and change your password straight away.

For users with IOS 14 - if you go to Settings > Passwords > Security Recommendations you can see if any passwords in your keychain have been compromised or are at risk.

YetARRGHnotherBeckyMumsnet · 31/10/2020 11:02

PS: we're just moving this over to Site Stuff now.

saraclara · 31/10/2020 11:09

I checked and my data breaches were with Houzz, cafe press and another that I've not heard of.

Not Mumsnet.

I think we're all suddenly getting these messages because of the new feature that MumsnetBecky mentioned
