Could the "Classifieds" topics just be removed from Talk entirely?

Since there is an entire Classified tab on the top menu, could we have a separate message board for those topics please? Those being

  • For sale
  • Wanted
  • Childcare
  • Swap shop
  • Small business ads
  • Jobs

Especially if you take up Champs' suggestion of MN Swaps having it's own topic... then we wouldn't have to worry about having No Buying/Selling, No Swaps etc. It seems like the infrastructure is already there for it.

Sorry Tech

I apear on my profile to be new but only because I had to re register to put pics in profile. (Did try to sort with tech first but re registering was easier)
So although I have been here since nov 2003 It says 2007 on my profile.

Just wanted to clear that up

ah how would we get round that then.

like the idea of it coming up when people joined by scrolling over there name. you know what else that would resolve? are they/aren't they a troll. cos when someone namechanges MN still knows who the real Mner is so could still have the same join date when you scroll over the changed name aswell.

nappyaddict · 06/10/2007 13:35

their name

i don't know why people and bounty want to sell on here anyway. they all seem to hate it!! look

nappyaddict · 06/10/2007 14:59

that didn't work try this

Aero · 06/10/2007 16:05

I'm with DG on this one. I used to sell a few bits and pieces or buy occasionally from regulars whose names I recognised, and would like to still be able to sell to regulars occasionally, but I don't bother now as there's no point. My wee posts would just get lost in the vast sea of selling posts by people who only use MN for business purposes. Seems a shame really, but I feel that even if I tried to sneak something into the 'other subjects' to sell to a regular, because I would only really want regulars to reply then I run the risk of being told off by someone who doesn't like it and to go post in the 'correct' section.

There must be a way of getting it right though, but I don't think a small fee would put off anyone who makes selling on mn a profitable business.

WideWebWitch · 06/10/2007 17:14

I'm always shocked at the number of buying and selling in active conversations if I forget to check the no buying/selling box

So I'm with the get rid of it crowd, if I wanted to buy or sell I wouldn't do it here.

iota · 06/10/2007 17:16

my no buying/selling button is always ticked

LIZS · 06/10/2007 17:35

mine too but they still come up when you look at Last Hour etc.

daisyandbabybootoo · 06/10/2007 18:10

it only works on active convos LIZS

LIZS · 06/10/2007 20:42

lisalisa it is more about the concerns of how it is being abused by traders, not MN posters, who use it as a fee-free ebay and also the issues of non delivery, dodgy quality etc undermine the MN philosophy. Because Buy and Sell can already be excluded they ahve overspilled into swaps , even when intending to sell, to appear on active Conversations. it isnlt an attack on regulars who sell on what they have accummulated for their own kids but those who seek to profit and buy/sell constantly and in volume. The latter have spoilt it for the former.

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 07/10/2007 09:04

I must confess I do wonder how much of BNWT is stolen.

FrightAttendant · 07/10/2007 09:51

Bree I often buy something, decide it isn't right for me but it's a hassle to return it say to an online shop. So I sell it still with the tags. Or else it's too late to return it but I've been umming and ah-ing about whether to keep it, tags ensure people know it's not been worn.

FrightAttendant · 07/10/2007 09:58

Rubberdauck isn't that what the green ones for?
