Bookmarks messing up page navigation within threads

Don't think anyone's reported this yet, but there seems to be a new issue with navigating within threads. If you bookmark a post on (say) the last page of the thread, and then use the "First" or "Prev" buttons to try to move to a different page, it now isn't working but jumps back to the bookmark instead. I suspect someone's made a techy change recently but it's gone a bit wrong so any bookmarks placed are now overruling any other navigation instructions. Hope that helps...

Yes, I'm getting this. Desktop site, Firefox, Windows 10.

Thanks for the workaround @Butterer.

Here's what I noticed when trying to come up with a workaround, there may be some useful clues for tech here:

  1. go on a thread with somewhere between 25 and 100 posts, bookmark the last post. Can't navigate to page 1, but can navigate to pages 2 or 3.

  2. click 'show 100 messages'. Get an 'oops' page - see image 1. If you delete '&pg=2' from the end of the URL it loads all 96 posts on one page, as it should. The URL ends with '?messages=100' and there is no '&pg=x' variable. Obviously it shouldn't be trying to go to page 2 if there are less than 100 messages.

  3. sometimes the same thing happens but it specifies page 1 and this also doesn't work - see image 2. Again, if you delete '&pg=1' it loads all posts correctly on one page.

If I don't bookmark a post and then click 'show 100 messages' it works correctly on pages 1, 2 or 3 of 25 posts/page view. Again, the URL ends with '?messages=100' and there is no '&pg=x' variable.

It goes strange on page 4 - see image 3. Instead of giving you all posts on one page it sends you back to a previous 25 posts/page (seems to be page 2 each time but I haven't spent too much time testing this), the URL now ends in '?messages=100%20%20%20%20 &pg=2'. If you delete the space it still goes to page 2. If you delete the whole of ' &pg=2' including the space it goes to page 1 of 25 posts/page. The URL still ends with '?messages=100%20%20%20%20'.

The 'show 100 messages' button is still visible and if you click it again it takes you to page 1 of 100 posts/page. The URL ends with '?messages=100', no '&pg=x' variable, no '?messages=100%20%20%20%20' nonsense.

Hope that's helpful.

ASCII coding/basic HTML sites tell me that '%20' is a space. So you have extraneous spaces in your code. Also your code doesn't seem to know what to do with 'pg=1'.

That's what I reckon with my rusty early 2000's skilz Smile

Good sleuthing, Lang :)

Not having read this, I posted a thread on this yesterday. I'm having the same problem, and can confirm that it seems to be always threads with bookmarked posts.
I use Chrome, and only read MN from my laptop. My thread:

Thanks for all your reports on this. Just dropping in to let you know that the problem should be fixed by tomorrow.

Thanks for being so patient in the meantime. Flowers
