Notfeelinggreattoday · 01/08/2020 10:14

Message at 3 am but by time i see this morning it had been deleted

Undead76 · 01/08/2020 11:21

Yes, I got it too! Brain working overtime as to what it could have been! Just says a user sent me a message but the message was deleted at the users request. I have been sitting wondering if one of my friends has outed me or something haha!

JayAlfredPrufrock · 01/08/2020 11:23

I got three.

SunshineCake · 01/08/2020 11:24

I got two but when opened they said message withdrawn at posters request.

Why not tell the truth MNHQ and say you deleted for being spam? Better than thinking something negative.

Longdistance · 01/08/2020 11:27

I got the same as you @SunshineCake
Two messages that had been withdrawn.

LouMumsnet · 01/08/2020 11:32

Thanks to everyone for flagging this one up to us - we're afraid that a particularly persistent and annoying spammer joined us in the wee hours and spammed many of your inboxes.

They've now been banned and we hope they won't darken our doors again but please do report any further dodgy PMs you receive - and obviously feel free to zap any that you received overnight.

Thanks everyone.

I googled the name and it looks like a Romance Scam.Shock

daisychain1620 · 01/08/2020 11:42

Oh I'm so glad I saw this post ladies. I've only been a member of Mumsnet for a few weeks and I got a message to say one of my posts were deleted as it was requested by another member. I have been annoyed to think I'd pissed someone off.

diddl · 01/08/2020 13:19

The one I had a couple of weeks ago-also "deleted by user" before I saw it was from "Asefuyop".

Presume that that was also spam?

Aveisenim · 01/08/2020 19:40

Yep! Reported it!

Yup I got that one as well. Thinly it should say deleted by MN rather than user tho.
FlissMumsnet · 01/08/2020 22:21

Hi Regulus - you're quite right if MNHQ delete it will say so - the only other kind of post removal is a withdrawal but that will say, "post withdrawn at poster's request".

Hope that helps and glad we caught this sneaky spammer!

diddl · 02/08/2020 08:12

Yes, Regulus, "deleted by user" makes it seem as if they realise that they've sent it to the wrong poster but that it was genuine iyswim.

It's very misleading though @FlissMumsnet

I woke up to 3 of these yesterday morning and it says they were deleted at the user's request.

But that's not true is it? If they're spammers, it wouldn't have been them who requested deletion?

As a PP said, it makes you think someone's sent you a message by mistake or even that they sent it and regretted it.

And why has my 'it' come up under the photo? Shock Grin

MuseumOfYou · 02/08/2020 14:43

I had one too! Already deleted by the time I saw it.

I saw this morning that I had had at least half a dozen messages from 'Sharonarne' on 1st August but they were all deleted at her request before I could see them. Just as well :-). I wouldn't have responded though. Why on earth would I want her pictures? There are some weird people about.
HebeMumsnet · 03/08/2020 10:11

Morning, everyone,

Apologies, we think there was some confusion here. With PMs currently, there isn't a way for us to delete them and let you know that we've deleted them for spamming rather than the sender withdrawing the message. We're deregistering spammers' accounts when we spot them, which also automatically withdraws all PMs. There's no other way at the moment to delete PMs in bulk from users' accounts.

It's something that is on Tech's list of things to do. Hopefully we'll have a fix for it soon but in the meantime, do feel free to drop us a line if you see anything weird in your inbox you want to check out. If it's unsolicited mail from someone you haven't engaged with on a thread, chances are it was spam but we can always check for you.

Except mine was a spammer and said withdrawn at posters request. Hardly seems plausible that a spammer would have a change of heart.
