One Madeleine McCann thread - is that a good plan?

JustineMumsnet · 12/09/2007 10:23

It has a been suggested a couple of times that we confine all discussion of Madeleine McCann to one thread. This is possible - we'd carry a notice to that effect and delete all other threads, writing to the OP telling them to post in the one thread.

People could still discuss developments but there wouldn't be multiple threads in active conversations (and indeed we are planning adding facility to exclude a thread - so folks could avoid altogether).

Seems to us - given the rancour of the last few days that this might be the best solution.

Thoughts please?

Great idea. I find the other ones a nightmare to avoid in active conversations and end up getting drawn in - the disadvantage of having not much more to do whilst on sick leave! At least this way it can be controlled.

Are we having the type of comment at the start that MP suggested re. personal attacks regards the parents, esp as they are innocent until proven otherwise.

CatIsSleepy · 12/09/2007 10:57

yep great idea

JustineMumsnet · 12/09/2007 11:05

Think we can leave MP's thread up as the one can't we Hulababy? And will linked to it from other ones.

When/ If others pop up do please report them.

Thanks,
M Towers

Sounds good Justine. I realised after posting that was the thread being directed too

tigermoth · 12/09/2007 20:07

just caught this - it sounds like a good idea, justine

Is it working now?

MiuMau · 13/09/2007 16:52

Will the one-thread -restriction stop the abuse hurling postings aiming the sabotage - mostly -totally reasonable discussions? Remains to be seen... Those low style postings are so unjustified, if you don't like it, just report it the Team Mumsnet (don't corrupt the discussion).

To all anti-abuse posters: simply keep ignoring the abuse, don't take it personally. The abuse tells more about the abusers than you. Just express your opinions respecting naturally Mumsnet Towers' written site guidelines.

Manictigger · 14/09/2007 09:34

Miumau, I think we're in agreement. Having just seen the 'happier thread' and 'I sincerely hope the McGanns are guilty because innocent people shouldn't have to suffer all this crap' postings, I think it's a brilliant idea to have a single MM thread. Hopefully then all the people who are a little bit thick misguided can be corralled onto one thread which could then be pushed over a cliff?

wonders whether chain mail and a shield would suit her
