maybe a button - a bit like search - to weed out words you don't like...ummmm like mccann?? (rather than ALL news, which I rather like most of the time)

Oh right, I see Calif!

I spend plenty of my day weeding out things I don't like mamazon: I don't read the papers, watch the news, listen to the radio, listen to music, all sorts of things.

It would be perfect to have a 'without ghouls and fuckwits' button but I suspect that's beyond even Tech.

How soon can we have a without news option? This bloody stupid protest is unfair on people who want nothing to do with any of it and are quite happy to just not post on threads they are not interested in, rather than try to silence anyone with an opinion different to their own.

The whole thing is pathetic and makes MN look like a forum by kids, not intelligent (?) women. I actually recommended the site last week to a friend struggling to conceive - I hope to god she hasn't had time to sign up yet as she will think I am a complete loon!

MaggieThatcherMumsnet · 12/09/2007 10:08

Soon promise. Tech's banging away in the shed.

Tech · 12/09/2007 12:23

As the maggon Justine said, we've added the ability to exclude "in the news" from the active convos list for now.

We are going to refine this over the next few days so that you can choose which topics you get in your active conversations list. We'll also add an "ignore" next to watch that takes the particular thread out of your active convos so that you can ignore a thread without excluding a whole topic.

CitizenCarmenere · 12/09/2007 12:26

Thankyou Tech, you are very clever indeed

magnolia74 · 12/09/2007 12:31

Excellent thank you

JustineMumsnet · 12/09/2007 12:32

How'd he do that crossing out thing?

CitizenCarmenere · 12/09/2007 12:33

Hes just very clever

RickyTigerfeetson · 12/09/2007 12:34

Oh I want to be able to do the crossing out thing too - have wanted to use it many times

Come on Tech, spill

Tech · 12/09/2007 12:36

i'm not spilling. I'd lose all me mystiquery.

JustineMumsnet · 12/09/2007 12:37

Shall I lock him in the shed till he squeals like a pig?

CitizenColditz · 12/09/2007 12:38

Oh thankyou tech xxx

CitizenCarmenere · 12/09/2007 12:38

Yes

CitizenColditz · 12/09/2007 12:38

yes. Do it.

NadineBaggott · 12/09/2007 12:41

I like the ignore thingy

NadineBaggott · 12/09/2007 12:42

the ignore button would sabotage the strike/bumping of news items too ...

bubblerock · 12/09/2007 13:06

Great stuff - cheers tech!

southeastastra · 12/09/2007 13:19

blimey hardly anyone posts on in the news anyway. (apart from the mm thing that will pass eventually)

WideWebWitch · 12/09/2007 21:00

Yay brilliant, gosh oh wonderful Tech, very impressive, thank you, thank you.

thank you

I had wondered in the wake of the McCann thing whether a 'Debating' section would work whereby those who want to thrash out a certain subject can go there rather than sqabbling over a genuine news thread? Could then have an 'Ignore Debating Threads' button!
