Deletion of the trans skater thread

MNHQ.

I understand why you felt you had to take the thread down given the way the OP reacted but it was a shame. There were a lot of useful comments discussing a topic that is important for women. I am a bit concerned that an OP can shut down the discussion of these topics by having a huge rant so the thread gets deleted.

The OP deliberately goaded to get the thread pulled. Because the ratio was very negative for them.

I wish HQ wouldn't let themselves be played. They need to come up with a workable solution to protect themselves, but remain unmanipulated.

EdtheBear · 03/07/2019 00:30

MNHQ disappointed that it was pulled. Missed reading half of it.

You are probably the biggest female group in the UK. You need to support females.

It absoultely sticks in my throat that the Ladies night at the local pool was changed to Adults night due to equal rights for men. And thats what will happen to sports and all single sex spaced. They will be opened up and eroded for future generations.

SoupDragon · 03/07/2019 06:53

What did the OP do to get it pulled?

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 03/07/2019 07:00

HQ can't have people thinking that anyone outside of FWR is gender critical otherwise the TRAs will be down on them like a ton of bricks and the TRAs have to be kept happy don't they Angry

MichaelMumsnet · 03/07/2019 08:00

Morning. That thread went well off the rails and we decided to take it down. We tried to keep it by moderating some posts because it was an interesting discussion - but it became increasingly obvious that the OP wasn't posting in good faith.

We're happy to take another look - but if we decide to bring the discussion back we'll need to remove a lot of posts - so please bear with us for now.

BIWI · 03/07/2019 08:02

Well it was clear that the OP wasn't posting in good faith @MichaelMumsnet - but you could have just deleted his/her posts. The rest of the discussion was really interesting.

As PP have said, you have been played here, I think.

BIWI · 03/07/2019 08:04

... and I'm sorry to have to say this, in fact I can't believe I'm actually going to post this, but was the decision to delete the thread made by a male member of the community? Confused

This feels less and less like a space for female posters to talk about issues that affect females.

To be honest, it was clear from the beginning that the OP was a set up.
But the majority of the discussion that followed contained a lot of valuable information.
It was well worth keeping because it was on AIBU rather than confined to FWR where the moderation is much stricter.
Also, more people read AIBU, which means more people get the information.
Maybe it would have been better to comment then delete the very goady posts in the latter part of the thread.

I missed the very last page, but from what I remember the only posts likely to be removed were the OPs

Personally...and i know i have nothing to do with this Grin.....i think it should be frozen and the OPs ranting, insulting and transphobic posts should be left up

Its really not fair to give anyone even the vague impression that it was mumsnet members that caused the thread to be pulled for transphobia or personal attacks when it was completely down to the OP who was obviously fishing for posts and in the end had to ‘provide’ such posts themselves

Especially as i will put money on the fact that the thread was reported from very early on as being goady and fishing and MNHQ only saw fit to remove it as the very end when the OP had completely lost it

That also keeps happening

Tbh this is how I feel about most deletions for any reason. I think a post that breaks talk guidelines or gets lots of complaints should have that highlighted, but be left to stand. It's good to see who the arseholes are.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 03/07/2019 09:27

MNHQ
Thanks for agreeing to look into this.

The OP sparked an interesting, reasoned discussion even though that was not the outcome they were aiming for.

OP posts:
RedDogsBeg · 03/07/2019 09:46

BIWI But @RedDogsBeg they could just have deleted the OP's posts. The point that people here are making is about the quality of the rest of the debate, plus the links that were shared. That wouldn't reflect badly on MN.

I agree, but also can see that at the point the thread was deleted it was prime fodder for less than scrupulous watchers of MN and I cynically believe that was exactly what the OP was doing it for so removing it quickly was the most appropriate decision at the time.

I would like to see it reinstated with the OP's later posts deleted and hope their ability to post on MN has been rescinded.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 03/07/2019 11:29

Thank you for bringing it back MNHQ

HopeMumsnet · 03/07/2019 11:33

Hi everyone,
Thanks for raising this, we've reinstated it now. Link is here, so fire away!
