Images of battered women in ads on Mumsnet

Hello,

I keep seeing an advert while on Mumsnet, from an organsation called 'singular news', with the caption 'What happened on Dragon's Den last night will shock you'. it's been around for a long time now. The accompanying image is of a pile of money and, in front, Deborah Meaden with a nasty black eye.

I don't expect to see gratuitous images of violence against women while on Mumsnet.

I expect it's not one of 'your' ads, just some crappy Google ad appearing in an unsold space. You can block these though. I suggest that you do so. I don't think I'm going to be using the site until you assure me I won't be seeing this, or any other similar, nasty, exploitative images, clearly intended to arouse interest through the violent degradation of a successful woman.

I completely agree. I've been seeing this too and it's revolting. I think it's photoshopped. It comes across to me as really misogynistic: let's show a successful, wealthy, independent woman battered about a bit and put in her place. I clicked on the link. It's some financial scam. Nothing to do with Meaden, who is absolutely fine.

Yes exactly, I'm sure it's photoshopped. Total clickbait - but what a horrible kind of 'bait' and so anthetical to this site.

I’ve not seen that here, but I have elsewhere and complained. Horrible advert.

lottiegarbanzo · 09/02/2019 09:27

Huh, trying to be clever there but I couldn't type antithetical!

Hi there @lottiegarbanzo,

We're really sorry we accidentally deleted this thread. We'd like to get this sorted as soon as possible.

Can we ask whether you're using the app, the desktop site or the mobile site?

If the ad comes up again it would be great if you could get the clickstring for us - it'll make it much easier for us to block it. You can find this by disconnecting from the internet, clicking on the advert and copying and pasting the link it takes you to us.

Hi Anya,

Thanks for reinstating.

I'm using desktop via Chrome. I've seen the same ad when looking at my email but more often here.

I'm overwhelmed by M&S Valentine's Day ads now, though did see the offending ad again earlier today, when here in site stuff.

I'm not likely to spend lots of time here in the near future, so am unlikely to be the best person to track it down for you.

I still saw the offensive ad 2 minutes ago when opening the thread asking why this one was deleted.

Hi there @Paxillin

If you do see the ad again, it would be great if you could get the clickstring. It'll make it easier for us to block it.
