Were MNHQ involved in getting a press agency to take this story to The Sun

I'm intrigued.

A post on this thread was deleted. MNHQ told the poster they would be in touch. She was later contacted by a press agency who were round her house with a photographer in a matter of hours. She's been told they're trying to flog it to the Sun.

Did MNHQ have any involvement?

I’d say unlikely - the agency probably just saw the post.

RiddleyW · 22/01/2019 09:03

Which agency btw?

DianaT1969 · 22/01/2019 09:19

Why did MNHQ delete the posts from LullaBelle?

TwoGinScentedTears · 22/01/2019 09:23

That would involve MNHQ passing on personal details wouldn't it? Sounds highly unlikely to me. We all know that journalists are here trawling the boards and it sounds like one did their homework pretty fast-which sounds more likely to me.

WeneverownedaniPad · 22/01/2019 09:27

The posts were potentially libelous. MNHQ deleted her posts and then the ones that included mention of it. They said on the thread they would be in touch. They've let the thread run and it's turned into a nasty pile in on the woman who was accused of wrong doing.

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2019 09:27

Why would MNHQ be involved?

Threads on here are read and lifted by the press all the time. So no surprise they would be reading ones that are about the big stories of the week.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 22/01/2019 09:29

I highly doubt it! They are super careful about what they will allow and what they delete on potentially libellous threads.

You do know that this whole place is alive with journalists looking for stories don't you? It's hardly news that a story from Mumsnet has made it's way into the papers, it's a daily occurrence these days.

JustineMumsnet · 22/01/2019 09:41

Hello and no we didn't have any involvement - we'd never pass on anyone's details to the press without their explicit consent.

WeneverownedaniPad · 22/01/2019 10:17

Hi Justine

we'd never pass on anyone's details to the press without their explicit consent - I know you wouldn't. I was wondering if you had been contacted by the press agency and liaised with the poster on their behalf.

bibbity - Yes, I know stories are often picked up by the DMail and other media. I was querying in this instance because MNHQ had told the poster they would be contacting her off thread. Presumably it was to make her aware of the trouble she could be getting herself into if she wasn't being truthful.

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2019 10:19

All the press needed to do was PM the poster.

No we weren't contacted by the press agency and our only contact with the poster was to explain why we'd deleted her post. Thanks

I know that Sparkingly and I've explained why I'm asking MNHQ. Thank you for clarifying, Justine.
