What on earth is ad choices doing here?!

This appeared in my feed today (a thread in relationships I think).

It's 'ad choices' so supposed to reflect the kind of things that I buy/search.

I don't have a dog and I have absolutely no interest in dogs, and I live in London - so no idea why this should pop up on my phone!

Hi BIWI

How peculiar (and annoying).

Thanks for sending through that screenshot. We'll take a look into what's going on here. While we do that, if you get chance to let us know what phone you are using that might prove useful too. Wine

@BIWI

How do you turn off personalised ads?

I don't see many ads but that's because mostly I use the desktop site!

... but (as far as I know) I haven't been on any threads about dogs either Grin

We shall speak to our adops team and ask about this!

You can control personalised ads from those in the scheme here^

You can stop Google personalising ads here:

Thank you Xmas Grin

Hi guys, I've looked into the specific ad and haven't been able to find it. If you see it again, could you send us the URL it links to?

In general, switching off personalised ads will usually give you stranger adverts, so I'm not sure that will help much. We already block many advert categories that are remotely sensitive, and will continue to hunt down any you sent us.

As always, thanks for your feedback!

TimMumsnet · 31/12/2018 15:35

@TheCbeebiesYellowBlobs - yes! We managed to hunt down and block the majority of the dodgy adverts being seen. Thanks for reporting them, and let us know if anything else surfaces.

AnyaMumsnet · 02/01/2019 12:34

Hi all,

Thanks for reporting these dodgy ads. We've found and blocked all of the ads you've reported, please post any others you find.

We've recently been trying a different source of ads on iOS app, 99.9% of the ads have been fine, with some glaring exceptions! If for some reason we aren't able to clear up these kinds of ads in the future, we will return to the more reliable ad source.

Thanks for all your feedback, we'll keep an eye on the situation.

TimMumsnet · 04/01/2019 12:40

Hey @bunintheoven88 - thanks for raising this, how strange! It's unfortunately difficult for us to ensure sure adverts are in the correct language since it's decided by the ad provider and not us.

Sometimes this may occur if you have limited ad tracking, but I'm not certain on that.
