How do I get rid of the stupid 'share on Twitter' / 'share on Facebook, buttons at the bottom of every thread?

I don’t ever want to share and I don’t ever want to accidentally link this account to my personal accounts?

And how come the user experience is WORSE than it was a few years ago? I’ll never RTFT because I can’t be bothered to wait for 10 pages to load, let alone be bothered to search through up to 10 pages of threads to find something.

And how do I customise the colours that the posts show up in? Surely this can’t alsonbe worse than it was years ago?

Social links (aka User engagement) you are stuck with it. It's how MN build their business.
Colours are in settings

Hi OP

There's no way to remove the social sharing buttons - that's just the way most social sites work! A link to a thread that had been shared on social media wouldn't link to your account personally, though - we hope that sets your mind at ease a bit?

Also, do let us know about your user experience. What device and browser do you use to access the site?

I’m afraid @LilyMumsnet, it’s not what it once was Sad

It runs so slowly (iPad and safari). Everything takes so long to type takes effort to be bothered to post. Clicking delete once can delete a whole line and typing takes ages...

I can’t customise properly - limited to 100 per page, I normally can’t be bothered to wait for pages to load, so just read the first page.

I can’t customise colours on threads and am stuck with unreadable purple.

The ads take over - pop ups that look like they could be harbouring viruses and auto videos/ moving ads that drain my data when using my mobile.

Every click takes ages (not to load the page, but actually decide that I’ve clicked on something before deciding to load).

I spend a lot less time on here nowadays, which is sad, but I suppose better than being on so much. I hate not being able to customise. And it’s hard work rather than fun now Sad

Hi @ThunderStorms - you're probably aware of it already, but have you tried our Talk app on iOS? We built the app with power users in mind, and although it doesn't have every feature of web MN, it is usually much faster to use.

In other news, we're spending much of 2019 cleaning up Talk - since it's a really old (yet high traffic) site, it's a very complicated job! Thanks for your patience, and thanks for giving detailed feedback, it's really useful in shaping what we do with Talk in the future 👍🏼

@TimMumsnet if you are looking for suggestions, then how about allowing editing of posts?
Whether it's because autocorrect has changed what you typed into something incoherent or you have other reasons to regret your post and need it removed or deleted instantly, a (time-limited?) opportunity to edit would give MN talk UI/UX a significant boost.

Reading back is easy to say but on a small screen with the keyboard taking half the screen, it's not always practical.

MN mates is another redundant feature. It would be really useful to share certain files (images or txt) with specific users - it would have helped the GCSE threads a lot - but we found that it exists but only fills a space rather than actually do anything.

Hi @ThunderStorms. I also use ipad safari and feel your pain. The site is unusable at times and MNHQ seem unable to get to the bottom of the delays losding and typing lag.

Two things I have done which have improved things for me, although not resolved the problems

1 Install Adblock Plus (from App Store)
2 Turn off background app refresh in General Settings.
