Are any of these below emoticons not appearing on the iOS app? If so, I'd recommend:

  1. Quitting and reopening the app
  2. checking for updates on the App Store here.


Also, some quick definitions:
Emojis are the universal characters 😄🤩🦄 available on all operating systems from the last couple of years.
Emoticons are the MN equivalent  available only on the site.

Not the end of the world but emoticons not working.

Hi guys, thanks for reporting this!

I've spent a while looking into this, and it's taking a while to get to the root of this.

It's only an issue for iOS Talk app users and I think it's connected to some changes in iOS 12 that we didn't notice until now. We'll get to the bottom of it and have a fix out ASAP. Until then, you may need to get by with the native emojis 🧙🏼‍♀️👻

Unfortunately our app dev is out of the office, so it's looking unlikely that this will be fixed by today - we're really sorry. Some of our other devs are looking into it, so their might be some developments, but we can't promise anything.

Hi guys, thanks for your patience!

Apologies for the delay, it's taken a good few days to hunt this bug down. iOS 12 required some extra work, which in turn broke the way we display emoticons.

Short answer: I broke it, sorry about that.

I've built a fix that is currently working, that I'll hopefully have it in your hands sometime over the weekend.
