I really don’t want to be one of those complainers who question mnhq decisions but

OvO · 15/10/2018 18:28

I’m going to question a decision. Blush

I posted last night about Evil Spiders and all was well until a few people posted pics. So I asked mnhq to delete the pics. I was told they didn’t break talk guidelines so wouldn’t delete them.

From what I can gather there’s even more pics on my thread but I can’t actually tell as I can’t go back on my own thread! I can’t see what others have posted nor join in again. So that’s nice.

So is not deleting photos in this sort of situation a hard and fast rule or is it dependent on who gets the email at mnhq?

I said I was going to sulk and let it go but I guess I’m still in the sulking stage!

Things get deleted all the time for not being in the spirit of Mumsnet or the OP is in a huff they didn’t get the replies they were hoping for. So why not for meeeeee?

OvO

I haven't read your thread but if it is a thread about how terrified you are about spiders and people have posted pictures (why? Why would someone do that?) then i think MNHQ should delete the pictures

OvO · 15/10/2018 18:36

That’s basically it, Rufus. I had thought it was a pile of black thread but it was a massive spider and I had been practically nose to nose with it. I posted as I was freaked out and knew MN would both sympathise and make me laugh about it!

It started well until the pics

I really had a massive painful fright when I saw them.

OP posts:
Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/10/2018 18:40

Its not fair in my opinion

And definitely not in the spirit of the site

How the hell is it in the spirit of the site to post pictures of spiders on the thread of someone who is frightened of spiders!

ThomasHardyPerennial · 15/10/2018 18:42

I hate that people do that - have seen it happen on so many threads about being scared of spiders. It's such a shit thing to do!

PurpleDaisies · 15/10/2018 18:43

That’s a real shame. All sorts of things get deleted for not exactly rigorous reasons. I don’t see why the pictures couldn’t have gone.

OvO · 15/10/2018 18:43

You’ve long been my favourite, Rufus

I love being agreed with. Grin

I’ll just ignore anyone who disagrees. That always works.

OP posts:
OvO · 15/10/2018 18:43

Oops, x post with other agree-ers!

OP posts:
Starlight345 · 15/10/2018 18:51

Was there a point to the pictures or were they just been @rsoles?

If the later I agree not in the spirit of mn.

I will say you can overcome your phobias , they will remain @rseholes

OvO · 15/10/2018 18:56

I think possibly one person was just on the wind up and knew what they were doing. The others peopbably didn’t realise that even a photo is terrifying!

But it’s mnhq that my complaint is more aimed at. It’s my thread and I can’t read it!

Not deleting pics isn’t going to cure me.

OP posts:
lljkk · 15/10/2018 18:59

can't you just hide the thread? Start a new one?

OvO · 15/10/2018 19:01

I did. But I’d have liked to have read the replies to my first one.

I’ve been here yeeeears and rarely start threads as I’m always insecure about getting no replies. Blush. So was enjoying actually have a thread people were joining in on.

OP posts:
costacoffeecup · 15/10/2018 19:52

I was reading that at 4am and one picture actually made me jump across the bed! So I stopped...

beyondthesky · 15/10/2018 22:23

I never red threads about spiders for that very reason so I feel your pain.

Even typing the word has given me a shudder. Irrational? Of course, but still horrible feeling of terror.

beyondthesky · 15/10/2018 22:23

Obviously should say 'read'!!!

SummerGems · 15/10/2018 22:27

Complete overreaction. They’re spiders fgs. They’re natural, they’re out there. Asking MN HQ to delete pictures of them are completely OTT. This isn’t something serious we’re talking about here - it’s a picture of spider.

Seriously how do people manage out there in the real world when everything needs to be considered to be “triggering” and deleted in case it offends the over-sensitive?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 15/10/2018 22:28

Well to be fair, your title wasn’t clear that it was about a spider and I opened it and read something I’d rather have been warned about. You then got photos of exactly what you were telling us about.... (I haven’t seen them as I won’t go back)

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/10/2018 22:52

summer

There is a word of difference between

'Ooh look a picture of a spider....MNHQ should delete it'

And

'Ooh this poster had started a thread about being afraid of spiders, lets post some pictures of spiders...'

I dont know how people manage in the real world when they struggle to understand such a simple difference

PhilODox · 15/10/2018 23:14

Does no-one call them loofahs any more?

OvO · 16/10/2018 00:50

You’re a kind and empathetic person, Summer, don’t let anyone tell you different.

Phil, I can’t remember the last time I saw them called that! I’m not sure many people would remember and we’d get called cliquey if we re-started! Grin

OP posts:
OvO · 16/10/2018 01:00

Georgie, in my head as I wrote the thread title it seemed obvious how the rest of the sentence would end but of course no one else is in my head!

I’m sorry for the unexpectedness of a spider thread. I know it’s not nice to read about something you don’t like when you’re just merrily mumsnetting and just looking for a fun thread or a mil drama.

OP posts:
Singlenotsingle · 16/10/2018 01:15

There's another thread on here atm talking about the Friendly Spider Programme. The OP was saying that it helped her get rid of her fear of spiders. Worth a look, maybe?

OvO · 16/10/2018 01:25

I saw that, Single, and meant to google it! Will do it now...

OP posts:
AnyaMumsnet · 16/10/2018 10:38

Hi there OP,

Thanks for raising this to us.

We understand where you're coming from and we do appreciate the posts were on the goady side, but we didn't feel they broke our talk guidelines. We've discussed this a bit further at MNHQ and we felt it that as it was a rather light hearted thread on Chat the posts were fine to stay - if the thread was posted on for example, general health, and was a serious thread about a severe phobia, we would have interpreted the pictures differently.

We hope this clears things up a bit.

Here's a much cuter pet thread which might distract you from spider season.

OvO · 16/10/2018 13:24

Anya! You can’t be here, you’re the one who emailed me in the first place!

Well this thread didn’t work. Humph.

I utterly disagree with the decision. You’ve said yourself the posts were on the goady side. But there’s no point arguing as I can tell that’ll be me nowhere fast.

Bet Netmums would've deleted them. 😝

OP posts:
Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 16/10/2018 15:19

I think one of the posts was on the goady side

The others seemed a bit more...

Well you think thats bad!!! Take a look at this!!!

Which still isnt bloody helpful Grin
