JJ - what unnerves me is the way it says 'scheduled shutdown' at the end - isn't that what they always say in films when they turn something off and it doesn't come back on and so someone dies, or a spaceship crashes, or the world starts ending??

We just don't want anyone to be unaware of what's going on.

I hope it comes back on alright after we replace the parts. I'll get lynched otherwise by the look of it.

What about people who don't log on until evening? How will they know what's happened? Can it be broadcast on local radio networks, or something?

Tech - can you log on to MSN too, to let people know when the outage is over?

What gets me is that he's enjoying it.

I could do actually. I could certainly send an email, which would be quicker as there only unix machines in the data center and none of them have msn clients. Is there a "core" mumsnetter who i can email who can then message their msn mates? Send the email address to use to [email protected] if so.

We are replacing the disks with newer, bigger, faster ones. And adding more memory. It should be straightforward.

I might call it six million dollar mumsnet afterwards. We have the technology. We can rebuild it. Better, stronger, faster.
