Anyone else having a message saying
‘this message has been removed as user request’

Have they been hacked?

Mnhq had proposed deleting messages, ,but had decided not to (OYBBK- had a thread in site stuff)

GertieMotherwell · 26/06/2018 07:11

Mine have been.
All sent and received.

Just to let you know we've seen this thread and are looking into it.

GertieMotherwell · 28/06/2018 20:38

Any update Esther?

I was just clearing my inbox and noticed a few posters' messages said this.

Is this an option we can all use? I'd like all mine deleted from other posters' inboxes too.

LassWiADelicateAir · 30/06/2018 22:11

I have 2 received and 2 sent removed. They were innocuous- the 2 sent were just some one being kind and my replies were just thanks. No personal details in any of them.

GertieMotherwell · 30/06/2018 22:34

I had loads, as did the poster I was PMing.
Neither of us requested it.

Any update MNHQ. I can understand a sender might in some circumstances ask for messages she sent to be deleted from the recipient's inbox but I have had messages I sent deleted.

I didn't ask for this.

LassWiADelicateAir · 30/06/2018 22:40

Gertie

Yes I've looked more closely. I have several deleted- both received and sent.

I didn't request it. This is quite worrying- someone is reading and deleting pms without either the senders or the recipients knowing or asking for it.

Theinconstantgardener · 30/06/2018 22:44

'Looking in to it'..... 2 days ago and nothing since. Not good enough mnhq

LassWiADelicateAir · 30/06/2018 22:50

This is not good enough. I have now deleted all of mine. There was nothing sensitive or private in them but this needs an explanation.

R0wantrees · 30/06/2018 22:56

I had problems with my PMs a few weeks ago. I was advised that tech were looking into it and had found a 'glitch' but 'nothing sinister'. During a 36 hr period, many PMs didn't get through both to me and from me.
I also had PM from a mod who was dealing and both her and my reply were removed saying 'at user request'. Additionally when I used the 'message poster' option on a thread, my PM was added to the thread. It didn't contain anything personal but I was very concerned at the time that someone may have openly shared something very personal.

ThenCameTheFools · 30/06/2018 22:59

I had a lovely PM exchange with a very dear old MNer friend who I'd lost touch with-just checked and the messages have gone with the same deletion message.

Theinconstantgardener · 30/06/2018 23:04

Thanks 'Rowantrees' that's a bit more reassuring

R0wantrees · 30/06/2018 23:07

TheConstant It was very disconcerting....

Pratchet · 30/06/2018 23:40

Nowhere is safe. It's safest to never connect your real life with your anon persona. Do what you need to do in real life but if you don't want the two connected, then start from a position of 'don't trust amy platform
or anyone and move forward with extreme caution'

ThenCameTheFools · 01/07/2018 08:50

My MN friend is just that, if that was a reply to me. Not someone I know irl. Someone I used to talk to a lot on threads here. I talk to rl people in rl Wink not via MN pm. That would be very weird.

PencilsInSpace · 01/07/2018 09:20

I didn't look closely at my sent folder, just selected all and deleted.

In the interests of security it would be good if we could opt to have PMs we've sent deleted from other people's inboxes when we delete our own copy.

It doesn't seem right at all that PMs we've sent could be deleted from our own sent folder because the recipient deletes their copy.

I seem to remember them saying, either in relation to the GDPR or the Emma leak, that PMs over a certain age would be automatically deleted - 6 months I think? I had PMs in my folders much older than that.

OlennasWimple · 01/07/2018 14:02

@R0wantrees - I just checked in my messages, and a couple from you had been deleted "at user request"

(I hope you don't mind me mentioning this on the board, it seemed directly relevant to the conversation)

R0wantrees · 01/07/2018 14:11

Olennas I don't have any sign in my PMs. I have had a couple of tidy ups though & deleted.

OlennasWimple · 01/07/2018 15:31

Maybe the deletions automatically removed the messages from my mail box? Which is fine, if that's the policy, but it would be good to know for certain that is the situation!

aswellihavehayfever · 01/07/2018 15:35

Does deleting them just delete them from your folder or are they completely deleted off mn servers and even mn staff can't access them?

PurpleDaisies · 01/07/2018 15:37

I’ve just checked and apparently I’ve requested for some of the messages I sent to be deleted. I haven’t.

If you are going to delete messages, please can you change the message to reflect the fact that MNHQ have been into my inbox and decided to read then delete my messages. I’m not at all happy about this. It feels like an invasion of privacy and it’s not on to pretend that I asked for these deletions.

fuzzywuzzy · 01/07/2018 15:42

After seeing this thread I checked mine too. And I’ve also got the same deleted messages.

Why do that?

aswellihavehayfever · 01/07/2018 15:44

I think it looks like if the person you sent the message to deletes it at their end, it deletes it from your sent box and you get that "this message has been deleted..."
