Ban posters, leave threads

Datun · 21/06/2018 02:46

There have been a fair few GFs lately. And they keep getting banned - quite rightly.

But could I ask that the threads stay?

It would be really useful to signpost them when new posters don't understand why we're a little cynical of MRA-esque posting.

Plus we're often accused of being 'tetchy', 'suspicious', etc. Those threads are why. It's galling to have them go pooff instead of being able to point to them as justification sometimes.

upsideup

Firstly no-one has the right to not be offended.

Secondly, if posts breach guidelines they can be deleted.

But when people say things that do not breach guidelines, but are nonetheless fairly offensive, the way women address the comment is useful for other women and lurkers to see.

They have got your number @MNHQ. Please stop spinning your wheels and take remedial action.

TerfsUp · 23/06/2018 19:44

On reflection, I am not sure about the thread deletion.

I am, however, in favour of banning goady posters.

PurpleCrowbar · 23/06/2018 19:50

I agree with Datun.

That thread was...enlightening. it should've stayed.

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 23/06/2018 20:02

Agree with Datun. Threads need to be visible but locked. When threads are deleted GFs can easily claim that MN is a hotbed of nasty discriminatory women but if people can read them they can make up their own minds about the many false allegations made against us.

Sarahconnor1 · 23/06/2018 20:09

What they said.

I agree with Datun

Bowlofbabelfish · 23/06/2018 20:23

That thread culminated (or had at the point I had to go to the supermarket and do some real life mundanity...) in the OP stating that they, as a transwoman, were entirely equivalent to a natal woman suffering from infertility. Tiny, tiny bit off, that, in my book. And I imagine in the books of women who suffer from infertility. It’s also, (how odd..) a concept that has been introduced here multiple times this week. It’s designed to goad women into reaction.

The entire thread was goady from the off. Plenty of posters were engaging in a calm way. I do, because I can be calm and I think it’s beneficial for lurkers to see that. Deleting the thread is a reset button for the troll, in some senses. It gives them an out (although hopefully MNHQ are using such incidences as one strike..)

What id like to know MNHQ is if you’re going to get some coercive control training for the mods. Because I do not envy you having to wade through all this and I agree with others that the pattern of posting is what’s important here.

What I’m seeing as a pattern of posting over the last few weeks is a combination of tag teaming and specific biological/paraphilic issues being brought up over multiple threads. Really goady stuff, often with shock/visual shock value.
Poster brings up/plonks down some controversial concept/image and lo and behold! a few other posters pop up to say why! Look! Yes I believe/am a living example of that very thing! Posters we’ve never seen on here before obvs... so...

...Coercive control training. And probably a bucketload of gin because by god I’m glad I don’t have to moderate all this.

Courage, mon braves Gin and Flowers to those upset by that thread, it was breathtakingly insensitive

ballsballsballs · 23/06/2018 20:25

What Bowl said. Infertility seems to be this week's way of winding up posters.

The new roles appear to have welcomed in goady posters who simply want to get existing posters irritated, upset and ultimately banned for reacting.

Bowlofbabelfish · 23/06/2018 20:35

Yeah. It is targeted MNHQ.

This is a deliberate strategy to probe individual weaknesses and elicit a reaction to get regulars banned. If you look back through the threads you can see it - a concept will be floated, they note who reacts and then they target them by replying directly to them and pressing the point.
It’s very unpleasant to see.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 23/06/2018 22:09

I wondered where that thread went!!

I agree (as always) with datun and bowls last few posts (and most of the other posters to be fair)

This forum has some goady mother fucking cunts on it...and everyone knows who they are

They are able to derail and goad with impunity and are causing threads to be shut diwn

And then you get very hard of thinking people assuming that posts and threads are being deleted as they are beyond the pale!!

MNHQ have been very helpful when i have reported and I absolutely appreciate in certain cases that their hands are tied

But closing threads and deleting when appropriate would be much more transparent

Datun · 24/06/2018 01:17

"We feel this thread has run its course, but in the interests of free speech and for all viewpoints to be visible, we are closing further comments, but not deleting the thread itself".

It's a win/win. Goady posters can't possibly complain that their comments haven't been deleted.

OP posts:
paxillin · 25/06/2018 00:19

It would be good to leave threads. It would show the most trolled sections of MN. Might be a close one between AIBU and FWR.

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 25/06/2018 00:26

If your post is goady or breaches the rules - you don’t get to leave your post there for all eternity

But it’s the people being goaded who are asking for the threads to stay. We’re not so fragile that we can’t take a few nasty comments. Of course if an individual post breaches guidelines then that should be deleted, but when a whole thread goes, it’s throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Lots of eloquent reasoned posts and some eye opening stuff, all lost because of reports from whichever side, it’s a shame.

Of course where someone has started a thread which is clearly trolling, fiction being presented as fact, encouraging posters to share personal details and inappropriate content, then deleting can be a good idea.

But when it’s just a question, which it then transpires has been asked to elicit certain responses, it should stand as the responses are genuine.

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 25/06/2018 00:28

Interesting to see who would rather those threads be deleted!

Datun · 25/06/2018 06:56

Interesting to see who would rather those threads be deleted!

Exactly.

Come on HQ, see the game here.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 25/06/2018 07:56

Interesting to see who would rather those threads be deleted!

Ive just implied this on the ither thread

SoupDragon · 25/06/2018 08:09

Isn’t there the possibility that leaving them up makes them a “badge of honour” for the goady fucker who started them though? They actually have a thread of visible goadiness to point at and say “I did that!”

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 25/06/2018 08:20

I see your point soup

But removing it means that the goady fucker can say

A) i got that removed, i can stop them from talking

Or B) (and this is the kne that is happening on here) MNHQ have to delete entire threads because of the transphobia. A reasonable question was asked and the answers were so transphobic the whole thread had to go

C8H10N4O2 · 25/06/2018 08:47

And

C) Deny they ever said it because a pattern of behaviour is hidden from public view. Which makes it easier to rinse and repeat with faux innocence.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 25/06/2018 08:51

Oooh nice c8

Forgot that one

Juells · 25/06/2018 08:57

If very good points have been made in a thread it's better to get the whole thread deleted by turning it into a battleground. Otherwise those who believe that MN is a hotbed of hate might start changing their minds.

Juells · 25/06/2018 08:58

battleground, hotbed of hate? 😂 I'd better calm down.

C8H10N4O2 · 25/06/2018 09:03

Forgot that one

Its trolling 101 for moderated forums.

Full thread deletion policies can make ultimately life more difficult for mods where you have determined or simply persistent trolls.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 25/06/2018 09:31

I woukd make a dreadful mod

Id be all 'fuckem if they cant play nice'

And 'christ that ones a twat...haven't broken guidelines but im gonna delete them anyway'

And my deletion messages would be ' deleted for being stupid'

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 25/06/2018 09:32

I think i may have just talked myself out of a job with MNHQ
