Webchat with Sarah Champion?

ArcheryAnnie · 23/04/2018 16:25

Sarah Champion has been tweeting about Mumsnet today (alas inaccurately - she tweeted a post on MN about "section 28" that was both satirical AND posted by a trans ally, when she assumed the opposite),

Since she seems to have opinions about Mumsnet, and is airing them in public, might she be a good candidate to invite for a webchat, so she can meet us directly herself?

I think it would be robust, but I also think it would be useful, and in the spirit of fostering a proper debate.

In the interests of keeping it civil, and not allowing it to be derailed by trolls and false-flaggers, I also think only posters who are already registered as of yesterday should be allowed to post on that thread.

What do you think, MNHQ?

Yes- if some more MPs see rational concerned women explaining the safety, privacy and dignity issues then the ranting of TRAs will be revealed for what it is.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 23/04/2018 20:29

Yes please.

Onemorning · 23/04/2018 20:35

Yes, definitely. This tweet is annoying but she's done good things for women and girls.

RogerAllamsFangirl · 23/04/2018 20:41

Definitely.

Pepvixen · 23/04/2018 21:14

Yes, good idea.

UpstartCrow · 23/04/2018 21:20

Yes.

goodthinking99 · 23/04/2018 21:44

Yes definitely ask her for a webchat. The more light shone on what/how things are discussed here the better.

ANameforToday · 23/04/2018 22:03

Definitely. I agree that existing users only should be allowed to take part as it could well be derailed otherwise

Waddlelikeapenguin · 24/04/2018 01:25

Yes please

LineyHasntLeftTheBuilding · 24/04/2018 01:35

Yes please, I like the webchats with politicians.

And yes to only already-registered users.

Weezol · 24/04/2018 01:41

Yes to inviting her and the registered for a certain time thing, even if that puts me on the non-poster list (longtime lurker, only registered in November IIRC.

I think she'll totally ignore or refuse any invitation, which would be quite telling.

failingatlife · 24/04/2018 01:57

I agree it would be a good opportunity but I also agree with Weezol that she will probably ignore. Hope we're wrong.

Kokeshi123 · 24/04/2018 03:17

I think it would be great. (And I hope that the conversation will be robust but civil on both sides.)

BabyItsAWildWorld · 24/04/2018 08:48

Yes please

SweetGrapes · 24/04/2018 09:07

Yes to the web chat and yes to only already registered users

Weezol · 25/04/2018 10:09

Bump

Popchyk · 25/04/2018 10:23

Yes. Would be a good idea.

I had a look at the Twitter feed and the vast majority of the replies were respectfully saying she had got her facts wrong.

There was one further comment from her - to someone saying that Mumsnet is a life saver.

"I have never said otherwise, I work with them".

StealthNinjaMum · 25/04/2018 17:42

I would support that idea.

FlissMumsnet · 27/04/2018 19:58

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for letting us know who's in favour - keep it coming and we'll make sure the big cheeses know there's support for this one.

Weezol · 29/04/2018 20:57

So does Sarah Champion really 'work with' @ MNHQ? Enquiring minds need to know!

WhatLineyDidNext · 29/04/2018 22:45

How does Sarah Champion work with MN?? Intrigued now.

And still yes to web chat.

Weezol · 04/05/2018 17:15

@MNHQ so, does Sarah Champion work with Mumsnet or not?

HebeMumsnet · 21/05/2018 12:43

Hi folks.

Thanks for your responses to this thread - and your patience while we looked into it.

We've had a chat about it in the office. In theory, it's a Q&A we'd be happy to run but we have approached several politicians in recent weeks and months about doing this and we're just not having any luck getting anyone to bite.

We're sadly coming to the conclusion that it's just not something politicians want to talk about at the moment. Transgender discussions have obviously been a bit of a political hot potato recently, so we're thinking perhaps let the dust settle slightly and then maybe some of them will be keener to have a chat about it.

Sorry not to be the bearer of more upbeat news but hope this makes sense.

misscockerspaniel · 21/05/2018 13:51

Thanks MN. TBH, I would rather have a webchat or Q&A with the proud woman and feminist, Meghan Markle. Any chance? Smile
