Why was the Asperger thread on SN Chat deleted?

Spotted the thread last night and went to read it this morning, as it's really quite significant for the autistic community, and it's gone.

I realise some might consider it challenging, distasteful and upsetting to read and discuss, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't discuss it.

We should be discussing it more.

Autistic, intellectually disabled and other disabled people are still treated appallingly and die in state-funded institutions. We need to be able to recognise the historical context of attitudes that lead to such horrors. It is a topic that will engender emotive and emotional viewpoints, and may be traumatic for some, but that does not mean we shouldn't talk about it anyway. People should be upset by this, people should be upset by the dreadful ways disabled people are treated in so-called 'care' homes.

Maybe it would be better to start a new thread, maybe without an attention grabbing title claiming he -was- a Nazi, so it can be discussed?
I think that's maybe what has caused the problem for HQ, he was never a member of the Nazi party claiming so is probably not a good idea.

I do think the discussion within the thread was quite interesting even if the title was misleading, Hans Asperger's association with the Nazi's during the war is nothing new, I see no harm in discussing this, it isn't black and white and is fascinating.

MNHQ have edited titles before though, if that's all it was.

Exactly, horrific abuses and death in institutions is not a thing of the past. History shapes us, and we need to learn from it, so we need to talk about it.

I'm not quite sure why this is suddenly a big shock to people, it's been know and debated about for many years before now.

And yes, sadly still happening.

i have no idea about the thread, but maybe if you put a warning in title so people know it could be upsetting? just a suggestion.

sorry I don't get SN topic in active anymore even though im opt in.

Basically there was a thread named "Hans Asperger's was a Nazi murderer of disabled children"
Which was about the "beyond help" children he sent to Spiegelgrund during world war 2.
Which is of course where they were experimented on and often killed.

He also protected many other children at his school from the Nazi's by hiding how disabled they actually were.

I've reported my OP so hopefully MN might explain the deletion so we can discuss this without fear of another deletion.

I'm assuming they're tied up in the data breach stuff...

Who knows? I didn't get to post on it so didn't see the deletion message!
