Update on the recent sharing of three users' IP addresses

Hi everyone

As many of you already know, some screenshots of Mumsnet posts were recently uploaded to Twitter by a former Mumsnet intern - here’s a link to a a previous thread discussing this.

Three of the screenshots showed an Admin’s view of the site, and therefore contained the IP addresses of the posters concerned.

Understandably, there are lots of questions about this, and we thought it best to address them in one stab over here.

Please do post any queries here, or [email protected] if you’ve any concerns or have further questions.

Thanks
MNHQ

How can you possibly ‘re-assure’ posters on the basis of a statement by EH? She realises she is in deep shit, has broken the law and has probably wrecked her career for the time being. She is minimising and back tracking like crazy (coward that she is, so much for activist conviction, huh?),

I gather the police are involved, get an independent IT security consultancy to investigate and report and then report back to us.

And MNHQ, I know your ‘brand’ is ‘we’re all mums together hanging out round the big virtual MN kitchen table’ but when things like this happen please drop the breezy ponytail swishing tone and talk like professionals running a multi-million pound enterprise. Professional women do not meet a crisis by laying on more Hobnobs.
