Weird behaviour with "back" button in browser - anyone else?

BertieBotts · 04/01/2018 21:45

Over the last few days I've noticed if I'm browsing Active, I'm On or a talk topic and click onto a thread from there, when I press back to return to the list of threads afterwards, it often seems to skip that page and go straight to whatever thread I was reading before that, which is very odd. It doesn't happen every time, but enough for me to notice. I have thought maybe I've clicked back twice by mistake and gone forward again, but it's like the interim page is just deleted from my history as though I never visited it at all.

Is anyone else getting this? It's really strange and disorientating.

I'm on Chrome on Windows 10 on a desktop.

Hi all,

So sorry for any inconvenience this is causing. Just swinging by to say that our tech team are aware of this and they're trying to get to the bottom of the issue.

LornaMumsnet · 11/01/2018 09:10

Hi all,

Thanks for updating us on this issue, our tech team are struggling to replicate but just wanted to let you all know that we're still looking into this and will do our very best to get to the bottom of it.

ShamTech · 11/01/2018 17:28

We're still unable to replicate this weirdness so I'd be very grateful (possibly involving gin) if anybody can "video" this as it's happening and email the video through to [email protected] - that will really help us try and figure out this mystery. Please make sure you capture the address bar at the top of the browser as well when you take the video.

Thanks for all the feedback and for your patience while we try and sort this out. Sham

ShamTech · 18/01/2018 10:09

@ceeveebee thank you so much for sending in the video. This is immensely helpful. And thank you to everyone else for the continued feedback. We are on the case with this. Will report back as soon as we find the cause.

RivkaMumsnet · 25/01/2018 19:50

Sorry this is still affecting some people and thank you for the extra info.

It's in the capable hands of Tech now so hopefully you'll have an update tomorrow.

LornaMumsnet · 31/01/2018 10:22

Hi all,

Just swinging by to let you know that Sham from tech is still looking into this one - struggling for a fix but still on the case. Thanks so much for the patience.

HebeMumsnet · 09/02/2018 09:45

Hi again. We're so sorry this is still going on. We've just had a chat with Tech for an update. It's not been forgotten - they're still looking into it, but it's happening so sporadically it's been really hard for them to replicate the problem and work out what's causing it.

They are still looking into it and as soon as there is news we will let you know. In the meantime if anyone else is able to catch it happening on video please do email it in. It might just help Tech crack it.

Thanks again for your patience.

TraceyTech · 16/02/2018 09:35

Hi there,

Just want to make sure I understand the issue. Is this happening for just Chrome? The first couple pages the back button is fine, but after that it starts to skip?

TraceyTech · 16/02/2018 10:37

ok so sorry this must be really annoying. We will trying and figure out why this is happening .

TraceyTech · 23/02/2018 09:06

Hi there,

So sorry this is causing so much frustration. We are looking at it and trying to pin it down.

The video is really helpful thank you.

If you could also provide the version number of the browsers you are using.

Tracey

SophieLMumsnet · 27/02/2018 10:03

So sorry, PositiveAttitude,

We've nudged tech about this and we hope they'll be on the case as soon as possible.

SophieLMumsnet · 27/02/2018 11:47

This is just to say that tech are looking into this - you haven't been forgotten! They're doing what they can. Flowers

SophieLMumsnet · 27/02/2018 12:16

Tech are a bit stumped, and they need to see what's going on in person.

If anybody who is having this problem lives in London and is willing to assist, please get in touch at [email protected] and we will arrange to visit to try and diagnose the problem as it happens on your browser.

SophieLMumsnet · 27/02/2018 13:54

Hi, SilverHairedCat - I don't think they've been able to replicate it, no.

TraceyTech · 28/02/2018 15:17

Could you try using the site in incognito mode and see if you have the same problem?

In chrome go to File->New incognito Window
in safari go to File->New private Window

JenMumsnet · 05/03/2018 09:52

Hi all,

Just to reassure you that Tech is still looking into it.

DawnMumsnet · 09/03/2018 15:24

So sorry this is still an issue for many of you.

Am off to see if our Tech team are any further along. Thanks for your patience.

DawnMumsnet · 16/03/2018 09:49

Is this still happening for everybody except @RiceButt?

Am heading back to our Tech team to let them know.

DawnMumsnet · 16/03/2018 11:01

Rats, I thought as much. Sad

So sorry, folks. The Tech team are beavering away - have asked if one of them can hop on the thread with any updates.

DawnMumsnet · 26/03/2018 09:57

Hi all,

Just wanted to apologise for the fact that we seem unable to get to the bottom of this. I've been back to our Tech team again and hopefully one of them will be posting an update on their progress.

Many thanks for your patience.

TraceyTech · 26/03/2018 11:49

Hi all,

I am so sorry this is still causing problems. Here are some options that might resolve the issue.

  1. make sure you are using the latest version of the browser - got to updates and update that browser
  2. try clearing your browser history via settings, close the app and open again
  3. reset the browser via settings - please note this will remove any browser extensions you might have (such as ad blockers)

Please do let us know if you are still having this problem after trying those.

I understand that this is very frustrating and we are trying to get to the bottom of it.

Tracey

TraceyTech · 06/04/2018 09:15

Hi all,

Sorry this is causing so much frustration, we are going to implement a change that should hopefully resolve this problem.

Many thanks for your patience.

SophieLMumsnet · 12/04/2018 09:49

Morning everyone,

Tech released a change which should have fixed this - is it still happening for you all?

SophieLMumsnet · 12/04/2018 16:54

Sorry, both! thanks for letting us know - we'll alert tech. Flowers

TraceyTech · 18/04/2018 08:17

Hi There,

I understand that this is really frustrating. We are looking at it and trying to resolve the problem but not being able to reproduce the problem ourselves is making it very difficult.

We have implemented some changes but they do not seem to have helped.

We will continue to work on finding the problem and fixing this.
